Job Description - Deconstruction Sales Consultant

If you have a passion for sales, home remodeling, exceptional customer service, and reusing and recycling materials, we would love to have you join our team.

The nonprofit Rebuilding Exchange seeks a Deconstruction Sales Consultant to contribute to the growth of our Deconstruction Services social enterprise, including business development, sales generation, and customer service. We’re seeking an experienced salesperson who is aligned with our mission and values. The ideal Deconstruction Sales Consultant is excited to sell our environmentally focused services, and show home owners how the deconstruction process can help their renovation projects divert building materials from landfills.

Rebuilding Exchange invests in our communities by reusing building materials, reducing construction waste, and training, supporting, and connecting people seeking careers in the building trades. We have stores in Evanston and Chicago where we sell carefully deconstructed, donated home materials like lumber, doors, and kitchen cabinets, plus unique and hard to find items like vintage home decor and furniture.

You are part of a team at Rebuilding Exchange, and your role is important to our organization and community. As a Deconstruction Sales Consultant, your responsibilities include visiting project sites, meeting home and property owners throughout the Chicagoland area, and selling deconstruction services for our Workforce Training Crew. The Deconstruction Sales Consultant uses their expertise with home remodeling and construction to schedule deconstruction projects, create proposals, and communicate with clients, project managers, partner organizations, and appraisal companies. The Deconstruction Sales Consultant reports to our Director of Social Enterprise, and coordinates projects with the Deconstruction Project Manager.

This is a part-time, hourly position for up to 20 hours a week as an independent contractor. Hours are flexible but generally completed Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm. The majority of job sites are within 30 miles of the 60202 zip code, but may be throughout the greater Chicagoland area.

Primary Responsibilities:

Grows Business Development and Sales

  • Actively seeks new clients, builds positive relationships with interested clients
  • Expands business reach through networking and partnerships to increase sales and customer retention
  • Achieves sales goals, including setting and meeting revenue targets
  • Responds to all inquiries in a timely manner and tracks all inquiries, leads and proposals
  • Provides Director of Social Enterprise with regular projections of upcoming revenue

Provides Exceptional Communication & Customer Service

  • Visits project sites throughout the Chicagoland area
  • Collaborates with Deconstruction Project Manager to develop bid proposals and scope of work for deconstruction services
  • Evaluates potential materials for donation, and records inventories of donated building materials
  • Coordinates sales and scheduling of deconstruction projects
  • Communicates with project managers and independent appraisers

Supports the organization and its growth

  • Supports the Director of Social Enterprise in growing our overall earned revenue
  • Collaborates with the Deconstruction Project Manager and crew
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings
  • Represents the organization in public settings
  • Contributes to a collaborative working environment that strives for excellence in service
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of construction, remodeling, building maintenance, or other related experience
  • At least 2 year of home remodeling marketing or sales
  • Detailed and organized project manager and supervisor, able to oversee multiple complex initiatives and projects and meet deadlines efficiently and successfully
  • Physically capable of working an 8 hour shift in a dusty environment and able to lift and move 50 lbs of material safely
  • A current, valid driver’s license
  • Excellent communications skills - verbal and written - and builds strong interpersonal relationships both inside and outside the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Interest in our nonprofit mission, especially salvage of building materials, and being a part of a fun and collaborative team!
