Full job description

This position will be responsible for managing and coordinating USET’s Dental Clinical and Preventive Support Center’s public health program activities through leadership, program planning, and coordination of the Dental Support Center (DSC) program objectives. The USET Dental Support Center Director shall be responsible for leading the daily operations, strategic planning and implementation of Tribal oral health programs and support initiatives and providing technical assistance to oral health programs.

Reporting Relationship:
The Dental Support Center Director is supervised by the Office of Tribal Public Health (OTPH) Assistant Director.

Exempt/Non-Exempt and Salary Range:
The Dental Support Center Director is an exempt position requiring limited travel, with a salary range starting at $73,649.00 per year.

Location:
Nashville Headquarters

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide direct consultation to USET member Tribal Nation dental clinics and non-dental staff on oral health promotion and disease prevention (HPDP) best practices, clinical efficiency, and professional guidelines.

2. Work and collaborate with other Indian Health Service (IHS) Nashville Area staff, organizations, IHS, local, state, federal agencies, and USET program staff necessary to attain program objectives and to ensure the collection of Tribal health information.

3. Provide training and technical assistance to support oral health clinical and preventive services to USET member Tribal Nations and eligible federally recognized Tribal Nations and Urban Indian Health Organizations in the IHS Nashville Area.

4. Work collaboratively with the IHS Nashville Area Dental Officer (ADO) to incorporate DSC activities

seamlessly with the overall Area Dental Program goals and objectives.

5. Prepare and submit annual reports to the Division of Oral Health on DSC activities and progress toward goals and objectives, training offered, outcomes, and training needs.

6. Maintain files and databases pertaining to DSC activities and objectives.

7. Work in collaboration with the USET’s OTPH staff on overlapping program activities, including research, data collection, and data analysis with USET’s Tribal Epidemiology Center.

8. Provide training as requested by the DSC Steering Committee.

9. Disseminate resources and lessons learned to USET member Tribal Nations.

10. Perform other duties as assigned by the OTPH Director.

Qualifications:

1. A minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited college in public health, dental hygiene, health education, health promotion or related field. A minimum of seven years of experience working in public health, dental public health or health education will be considered as a substitution for a master’s degree.

2. Strong public health experience in program administration, development, implementation and evaluation. Strong background and experience in dental public health is preferred.

3. Strong dental public health and/or dental clinic experience in program administration, budget development, implementation and evaluation is preferred.

4. Incumbent must possess the ability to communicate public health program issues related to oral health.

5. Cultural sensitivity and ability to work within the customs and traditions of various Tribal groups is also required.

6. Strong knowledge, skills and abilities related to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook

and operations and the ability to learn new software applications quickly.

7. Experience with Dentrix and RMPS is highly preferred.

8. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.

9. Ability to travel and work irregular hours. Travel up to 30%.
