Ocean Connectors Development Manager

Summary:

The mission of Ocean Connectors is to educate, inspire, and connect youth in underserved Pacific coastal communities through the study of migratory marine life. Ocean Connectors was founded in 2007 to address the lack of coastal access and awareness which can contribute to environmental degradation. Ocean Connectors is a fiscal sponsorship project of The Ocean Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

A new position in the organization, the Ocean Connectors Development Manager will report to and work in partnership with the Ocean Connectors Executive Director to help build the development function of the organization, including stewarding donor and partner relationships, cultivating new funding sources, and actively identifying growth opportunities to support existing and planned program activities.

Primary job duties include donor management, fundraising, community engagement, partner development and grant management. The Development Manager will play a leading role in the creation of new fundraising strategies, including an individual giving/membership program, annual report publication to be sent to donors, and fundraising calendar to track different campaigns and donor communications. Additional duties include overseeing general organizational marketing efforts, event planning, and generating reports on development activities and financial outcomes.

The Development Manager is a highly effective fundraiser, skilled communicator, and excellent manager of relationships. This is a dynamic position that requires strong oral and written communication skills to help tell the story of the organization, recruit new supporters, and achieve fundraising goals.

Timeline: This is a full-time position beginning January 2021.

Compensation: Starting salary for this position is $54,000 to $58,000, depending on experience. Work-related expenses will be reimbursed with prior approval. Ocean Connectors offers a robust benefits package including health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, and others.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in relevant field
  • 4+ years recent experience in nonprofit development with track record of success
  • Exceptional written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a small team, as well as work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize own workload while maintaining flexibility
  • Enthusiastic about building new fundraising strategies from the ground-up
  • Strong commitment to the Ocean Connectors vision and mission
  • Familiarity with WeDidIt fundraising platform and Spanish language skills preferred but not required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $54,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year

  • 8 hour shift

COVID-19 considerations:
Office space not provided until COVID-19 precautions are lifted. In the interim, all Ocean Connectors staff are working remotely and virtually to fulfill job responsibilities.
