Position Overview: The Director of Development and Community Engagement will be responsible for cultivating a culture of philanthropy within the organization. The Director plans and implements a comprehensive fundraising program that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events. The Director is an experienced team leader who is responsible for developing and supporting a four-person Community Engagement team to meet fundraising goals, host major fundraising events, communicate with stakeholders and engage volunteers. The position reports to the CEO.

We are seeking a person with extensive experience in developing and implementing fundraising strategy, donor cultivation and stewardship, planned giving, grassroots fundraising and board engagement. The Director will prioritize time and activities based on the following allocation:

v Organizational and Department Leadership: 20%

v Fundraising: 60%

v Communications and Volunteer Engagement: 15%

v Other duties: 5%

Moveable Feast’s FY24 budget is $5.8 million. The Director of Development and Community Engagement is responsible for individual, corporate, foundation and event fundraising totaling $2 million.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards potential and current major donors and maintains ongoing relationships and leads the team including the CEO in individual and corporate stewardship activities.

· Leads the Community Engagement team by setting goals, meeting regularly with the team and individual staff, and supporting the development of staff.

  • Sets targets and creates the annual development plan and strategy to meet fundraising goals for individual, corporate, foundation and event revenue in coordination with the CEO and Community Engagement team.

· Serves on the organizational Leadership Team that implements the strategic direction of the organization and collaborates across departments to achieve strategic priorities.

  • Ensures that community engagement is grounded in race, equity and social justice with an emphasis on the common good of the community.
  • Mobilizes the Board of Directors to support organizational fundraising and provides staff support to the Board Development Committee.
  • Builds relationships with foundations and works with the Development Associate to ensure all grant applications and reports are submitted on time.
  • Develops a planned giving strategy for the organization and identifies and stewards potential planned gifts.
  • Provides support to the Events Manager to plan and execute special events that engage donors and meet event fundraising targets.
  • Monitors and analyzes fundraising data using the CRM database to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Assists the Executive Director on Capital Campaign initiatives, as applicable and tracks Capital Campaign donors.
  • Ensures the organization recognizes and values all donors of time, talent and money to the organization.
  • Collaborates with the Communications Manager to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials.
  • Provides support to the Volunteer Coordinator to promote effective volunteer engagement within the organization.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of in a managerial or leadership role in a nonprofit organization that serves under-represented or underserved populations. Experience can be substituted for education requirements.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events.

· At least three years of experience supervising staff, preferably leading a multi-person team to accomplish shared goals.

· At least two years of experience working with a Board of Directors to lead stewardship efforts.

· At least three years of experience working in depth with a CRM database.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities have been attained.

This position requires weekly on-site work at our office location 901 N. Milton Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21205 with eligibility for hybrid remote work after successful completion of the 90-day probationary period.

Salary: $92,500 - $95,000 annually (exempt)
