01 POSITION DETAILS

SIREN Seeks a Director of Development and Communications

Reports To: Executive Director

Location: San Jose, CA / Fresno

Position: Full-time, exempt position.

02 ABOUT US

Services, Immigrant Rights & Education Network (SIREN) is a 501(c)(3) community-based organization dedicated to empowering low-income immigrants and refugees through community education, organizing, leadership development, policy advocacy, civic engagement, and legal services. We believe that all people, regardless of legal status or nationality, are entitled to essential services, human dignity, basic rights, protections, and full participation in society.

03 IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking a motivated individual to join us as Director of Development and Communications. This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of our Leadership Team. The ideal candidate is driven by social justice values and committed to amplifying the voices of immigrant and refugee families. Additionally, the ideal candidate is organized, self-driven, and proficient in communication tools and data management.

04 ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Development and Communications will manage communication and development initiatives across our BayArea and Central Valley offices.

05 Communications Management

With the support of the communications team, oversee all communication assets and messaging for community members and stakeholders.

1. Manage and maintain communication tools, including email and social media platforms. Assess current tools for effectiveness, recommend improvements, and evaluate additional tools to expand reach and impact. Develop and oversee a content calendar for emails and social media posts.

2. Oversee relationships with traditional media and develop a comprehensive media strategy. Serve as the media point of contact, respond to media inquiries, plan and execute press conferences, and create talking points and media strategies.

3. Implement data protocols to develop targeted communication strategies for specific audiences, such as small donors, volunteers, funders, and the broader community.

06 Fundraising

Build up our individual donor base and plan an annual banquet.

1. Develop our individual donor base and create a strategy for maintaining and expanding their financial support.

2. Plan and execute an annual banquet to recognize donors and allies while acknowledging community members' support and advocacy efforts.

3. Manage and maintain an up-to-date donor database.

07 Grants Management

With the support of the grants team, identify and pursue funding opportunities to support our programs and services.

1. Ensure that we meet all grant reporting obligations on time and in full compliance through the implementation and maintenance of processes that gather all of the necessary data and the preparation and submission of required reports.Plan and execute an annual banquet to recognize donors and allies while acknowledging community members' support and advocacy efforts.

2. Identify and pursue grant and funding opportunities aligned with our mission, ensuring timely submission of applications. Additionally, maintain our standing documents that are used to submit grant applications, including board and organization demographics, 990s, and annual reports.

3. Build and maintain relationships with funders to keep them updated on the needs of our communities and our staff as they serve our communities.

08 General Operations and Administrative Support

Work with our leadership team to meet organizational needs.

1. Comply with our financial and accounting protocols as appropriate to best ensure that our operations are transparent, effective, and efficient. Put in good faith effort to promote collaboration, trust, and relationship building within our team. Plan and execute an annual banquet to recognize donors and allies while acknowledging community members' support and advocacy efforts.

2. Keep our outreach and organizing materials up to date and available.

3. Assist in translations as needed and appropriate.

09 Qualifications

Minimum education and experience requirements. Candidates must have:

1. Bachelor’s degree or three years of direct experience developing content and communications strategies to effectively reach and engage stakeholders; and

2. Experience in successful grant development, writing individual and team proposals, and facilitating the submission of grant proposals, in addition to grant management.

10 Knowledge and Abilities

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

2. Bilingual candidates, particularly in Spanish, are strongly preferred.

3. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic organization with multiple moving parts.

4. Commitment to immigrant community needs and a passion for immigrant and human rights.

5. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

6. Adept at public speaking and teaching in large groups and comfortable with conducting media interviews.

7. Ability to work independently and under pressure while exercising sound judgment, as well as the ability to maintain good working relationships with culturally diverse staff and clients.

11 Flexibility

1. Must be able to provide own transportation with adequate insurance and maintain CA driver’s license.

2. Must be flexible with working hours to meet the organization's needs and mission, including occasional evenings and weekends.

12 Compensation and Benefits

1. Pay Equity: SIREN has adopted a pay equity model to ensure fair and transparent pay scales. The posted salary represents a range. . Any offer of compensation made will be based on the candidate’s years of experience and whether the candidate meets the requirements to qualify for differentials that increase the compensation that is offered. Offers are not negotiable but may be revised based on our assessment of the candidate’s experience and skillset under our differential system.

2. Director-Level Pay Scale. The pay scale for Directors is $80,000 to $110,000.

3. Benefits. Additional compensation includes health insurance coverage and dental and vision benefits.
