Full job description

Job Title: Director of Finance

Summary/objective: The Director of Finance is responsible for establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. Works to ensure the organization operates in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and meets financial objectives in all organizational locations.

  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Provides status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting, and reporting key financial information.
  • Manages budget and controls expenses effectively.
  • In conjunction with Director of Human Resources hires, trains, develops, and appraises finance department staff.
  • Compiles, enters, and analyzes financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly, annual, and classification accounts.
  • Appropriately allocate multiple revenue streams to appropriate accounts.
  • Ensures financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Prepares financial management reports.
  • Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes.
  • Meets grant deadlines for financial reporting, reimbursement requests.
  • Resolves accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Reconciles bank, investment, and ledger accounts.
  • Supports the Executive Director in budgeting and forecast activities.
  • Monitors and supports taxation requirements.
  • Maintains accurate QuickBooks and grant spreadsheets.
  • Prepares for financial audits and coordinates the audit process with an independent, third-party public accountant.

Education/Qualifications: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting with related 1-3 years’ experience required. A Master of Business Administration or related field is preferred with a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer skills excellent decision-making skills, and be creative. Should have experience with Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and experience in Non-profit work with experience in grant management.
