Responsibilities

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local employment-related laws and regulations
  • The Director, Human Resources will be the key leader for creating the vision and strategy for the Human Resources team and agency
  • S/he will implement and manage high-quality human resources services to ensure the growth of BGCSL’s capabilities and attainment of organizational goals
  • With the support of the human capital team, s/he will lead and manage all aspects of the employment life cycle including: recruitment, selection, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, retention, labor law compliance, and exits
  • The Director, Human Resources will report to the Chief Operations Officer
  • Brand BGCSL as an “Employer of Choice”
  • Be a culture champion and thought partner to the senior leadership team to create a high performing organization
  • Facilitate coordination across departments to support overall staff effectiveness
  • Implement robust staff performance management system
  • Design and execute compensation strategy
  • Ensure that employees are recognized and appreciated (e.g., organize all hands meetings to support and celebrate staff, etc.)
  • Create overall BGCSL hiring brand and value proposition and oversee the recruitment process for hiring around 100+ staff annually, most of whom are part-time, front line program staff
  • Ensure BGCSL has the talent needed to achieve its mission by building a strong pipeline of candidates through creative sourcing techniques, online tools, in-person events, and partnerships with other organizations
  • Proactively and strategically plan for future hiring needs
  • Support hiring managers with screening and interviewing for senior level roles
  • Develop pre-screening protocol and filters to improve efficiencies
  • Advise and guide managers on employee issues; assist in resolving
  • Work with managers to develop and implement performance improvement plans when needed
  • Support managers through terminations and exits
  • Ensure BGCSL is in compliance with federal and state labor laws (knowledge of CA employment law is especially helpful)
  • Manage employee HRIS database (ADP) and Salesforce software
  • Ownership of volunteer compliance in partnership with the Volunteer department
  • Follow up with contact tracing, report cases to external partners, oversee testing schedule, provide regular updates on federal, state and local health and safety recommendations

Description: Since 1947, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro (BGCSL) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Leandro and the great East Bay. Position Overview

We are looking for a talented and passionate Human Resources leader whose core mission is to support our team by hiring, onboarding, and supporting the people who make our programs strong. The Director, Human Resources will be the key leader for creating the vision and strategy for the Human Resources team. S/he will implement and manage high quality human resources services to ensure the growth of BGCSL’s capabilities and attainment of organizational goals. With the support of the human capital team, s/he will lead and manage all aspects of the employment life cycle including: recruitment, selection, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, retention, labor law compliance, and exits. Recruiting

  • Create overall BGCSL hiring brand and value proposition and oversee recruitment process for hiring around 100+ staff annually, most of whom are part-time, front line program staff
  • Ensure BGCSL has the talent needed to achieve its mission by building a strong pipeline of candidates through creative sourcing techniques, online tools, in-person events, and partnerships with other organizations
  • Proactively and strategically plan for future hiring needs
  • Keep job descriptions current
  • Support hiring managers with screening and interviewing for senior level roles
  • Help tailor interview questions for specific roles
  • Develop pre-screening protocol and filters to improve efficiencies

Employee Relations & Benefits Administration

  • Advise and guide managers on employee issues; assist in resolving
  • Work with managers to develop and implement performance improvement plans when needed
  • Support managers through terminations and exits
  • Annually evaluate and recommend benefits package (e.g., medical, 401k, workers’ comp, etc.) to attract and retain top talent
  • Oversee the HR Coordinator and Recruiter in providing day-to-day support for employees with inquiries regarding benefits, pay, and employment questions

Administration & Compliance

  • Ensure BGCSL is in compliance with federal and state labor laws (knowledge of CA employment law is especially helpful)
  • Manage employee HRIS database (ADP) and Salesforce software
  • Ownership of volunteer compliance in partnership with the Volunteer department

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
