Director or Parks & Recreation, Town of Cicero, NY
Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000
The Town of Cicero, New York has an immediate opening for Director of Parks & Rec. This position is responsible for the initiation, formulation, review, and direction of activities undertaken by the Parks and Recreation Department for the Town of Cicero.
The Director plans, assigns, and coordinates a variety of administrative and technical projects regarding the operation of town parks, properties, and recreation facilities. Administrative supervision is received from the Town Supervisor, and the incumbent reports to the Town Board. The role exercises functional and direct supervision over a number of subordinate departmental staff, projects, programs, and initiatives.
Requirements:
Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Park & Recreation Management, or closely related field, and two years of leadership level position, or a combination of professional work experience in park operations, maintenance or management.
Responsibilities:
· Directs and oversees staff, facilities, programs, and projects under the control of the department.
· Supervises the daily operation and maintenance of Town parks and other areas under the purview of the department.
· Develops the departmental operating budget annually, including projecting expenses, funding, equipment needs, and vehicle replacement, and presents it to the Town Supervisor and Town Board. After adoption of the budget, monitors, administers and reacts as needed to modify.
· Directs and approves department purchasing, including materials, price quotes and estimates, service requisitions.
· Oversight of all recreational programs, sports leagues, events, and reservations at Town Parks & Rec facilities which include seven parks, seven cemeteries, three park & rides, as well as a teen and a senior center.
· Collaborates with Town leadership to administer Human Resources management of direct reports including interviews, performance evaluations, schedules, discipline, and other staffing related issues.
· Proposes and assists in development and direction of capital projects consistent with Town public needs, desires, and demographics while maintaining the budget.
· Directs staff and coordinates equipment, and materials involved with maintenance projects within Town Parks.
· Assists in the development and direction of special events within park areas and facilities.
· Coordinates, advises, and assists the Town Supervisor and Town Board in responsibilities pertinent to the goals and objectives of the department.
· Develops and implements park-wide policies in support of employee and visitor safety, departmental protocol, and public relations.
· Represents the Department to the Town Board and attends Town Board meetings.
Requirements:
Comprehensive knowledge of:
· purposes, principles, and practices employed in public parks and recreation management
· development and design of educational and recreational park programs
· advanced professional techniques and laws in public parks and recreation management
Must be Skilled At/Possess:
· Administrative planning, management, and supervision
preparation and interpretation of statistical, technical, and narrative reports regarding department activities
· Ability to analyze current problems, assess future problems and formulate action plans to facilitate resolution of said problems
· Outstanding professional leadership ability
· Well-versed with grant writing, administration, and prospecting
· Qualifications, education and experience subject to Onondaga County Civil Service law; including completion of exam as required for title
