Job description

Director of R&D: Solis Agrosciences, a unique AgTech company that provides plant science companies and researchers access to a premium, on-demand R&D platform, is seeking a Study Director to join our team. This is a senior leadership position that offers a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an exciting and fast-growing company. We are located in the 39 North Ag Biotech district of St. Louis, Missouri. Relocation assistance is available.

Position Summary: This role will oversee client projects at Solis Agrosciences. Solis undertakes diverse R&D projects on behalf of its clients and develops innovative services and assays for plant biotechnology.

  • You will interface with Solis’ clients to understand their needs and successfully deliver their projects.
  • You will work closely with Solis’ leadership on maintaining the momentum of and refining the strategic direction for Solis’ R&D platform.
  • You must enjoy spending time in an extremely fast-paced startup environment, be an outstanding and highly innovative scientist, have a deep understanding of the inner workings of a plant science lab, and be passionate about using this knowledge to deliver quality work product quickly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Solis management and scientists to understand the needs of customers and help design appropriate experiments.
  • Oversee client project management and ensure the R&D program consistently delivers high-quality work product acceptable to meet client and company expectations within budgetary and timeline requirements.
  • Provide direct supervision to Solis scientific team members, including schedule prioritization, troubleshooting and mentoring to ensure consistent, high performance.
  • Function as a subject matter expert with advanced levels of technical skill and insight, staying on top of the latest innovations and literature, as they relate to plant transformation, gene editing, molecular characterization, physiology and other aspects of plant biotechnology.
  • Perform regular assessments of key/emerging technologies and actively contribute to strategic planning for growing our service-based business through developing, licensing, or acquiring new services and technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Plant Biology or closely related scientific field.
  • Must have a minimum of 10+ years’ relevant post-graduate experience leading plant Biotechnology R&D projects/teams
  • Breadth of experience across multiple areas of molecular biology, cell biology and plant science. Experience with gene editing and plant transformation is highly desirable.
  • Clear and succinct verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be extremely agile, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while providing high quality results in a reliable and timely manner.
