Are you a leader with a sharp mind for hydrology and stormwater management that thrives in fast-paced environments? The Water Resources (WR) Director position at Metric Environmental may be the perfect opportunity for you. The role blends technical expertise, strategic leadership, and environmental impact. You will leverage your hydrology, stormwater, and regulatory compliance knowledge to guide project development and collaborate with a diverse range of clients to provide exceptional service and design sustainable solutions for water resources challenges. Not only will you champion project execution and success, but you will also play a key role in financial management, overseeing budgets, invoicing, and profitability analysis.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct stormwater design and inspection function and oversight for the WR Team
- Manage stormwater design and inspection services performed by staff
- Write/compile portions of WR documents in an efficient manner and in accordance with complex, transitory regulations and guidance materials.
- Assist in maintaining electronic project files and project databases to keep internal and external stakeholders aware of project developments.
- Technical review of environmental documents to ensure completeness and conformance to requirements.
- Conduct field visits and attend meetings to support the WR document development process.
- Prepare field instructions for environmental consultants to use in the field
- Objectively evaluate project options and identify short and long-term strategies to meet client goals
- Utilize knowledge of local regulations, positive agency relationships, and a thorough understanding of the intricacies of ordinances at all levels of government to facilitate timely approvals and clearances as well as eliminate surprises and delays
- Perform QA/QC Review of technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance
- Inspect facilities to monitor compliance with environmental regulations
- Perform regulatory and technical research as needed to support a project
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and US Army Corps (USACE) water resource regulations
- Knowledge of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, The Indiana Department of Transportation, West Virginia Department of Highway, Pennsylvania Department of Highway and Ohio Department of Transportation rules and regulations pertaining to the Environmental Process
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Communicate directly with regulatory personnel, company personnel, and clients
- Strong technical writing skills, especially the ability to explain regulations to multiple audiences
- Ability to work independently and solve problems of a complex nature with limited supervision
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Strong client management and consultant team management/mentoring skills
- Comfort in and focus on training and development of Staff, Project and Senior level staff
- Team leadership
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field of study.
- 10+ years of practical consulting experience in water resources or stormwater design
- Previous stormwater or environmental management consulting experience is highly desired.
- Certification (CPESC or similar) or ability to obtain.
- Experience with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and US Army Corps (USACE) water resource regulations, permitting, design and management.
- Experience in client relationship development/management and business development with strong client relationships.
- Demonstrated active participation in associated community, professional and industry groups
- Responsible leadership experience in management or supervisory positions.
