Electrical Distribution Line Design Professional
Patterson & Dewar Engineers is seeking an experienced Electrical Distribution Line Design Engineer. This person will be responsible for power line design and analysis on overhead and underground distribution systems and will require some travel to collect field data. This person should be familiar with RUS units, the basics of structural analysis, underground design and line design software tools such as, IKE PoleForman, SPIDAcalc, O-Calc or PLS-CADD.

Essential Functions
- Design and analyze overhead distribution lines. This includes designing for appropriate clearances, structure spotting, structural design and analysis (IKE PoleForeman, SPIDAcalc, PLS -CADD etc. or by hand calculations), in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, and client personnel.
- Design and analyze fiber and communication attachments and create make-ready documentation
- Design and analyze underground distribution
- Manage individual projects effectively and lead a project team of technicians on larger efforts
- Create material breakdown sheets and develop construction bid packages and assist in estimating job costs
- Travel to project sites to gather design information; make assessments of existing systems, provide technical advice, assist construction crews with questions
- Maintain current and working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (i.e. RUS, NESC, ASCE)
- Prepare and review documents and drawings (i.e. specifications, design criteria, construction documents, and as-builts)
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively and honestly, both written and verbal, to clients and colleagues
- Available to assist others as needed in a fast-paced customer driven environment
- Successful in completing tasks with little to no supervision
- Proficient in the use of the software and tools necessary to complete the work
- Ability and willingness to travel and work extended hours when needed
- 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution line design, staking or transmission line design
- A BS in Civil or Mechanical engineering preferred or secondary education at a technical school or college (required)
- Not afraid to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to safety and the welfare of co-workers and clients
- Service-oriented attitude and ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients

Pay: $50,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
