Full job description

Position: Dog Montessori School Teacher

Position Description:
A dynamic and intuitive teaching position that brings creative and energetic daily enrichment, holistic fulfillment, and choice to canines and their people at a dog Montessori school.

What Success Looks Like for a Dog Montessori School Teacher:
A Dog Montessori School Teacher is a dog enthusiast with knowledge of animal behavior and dog training, who comes to work every day excited to enrich the lives of the 10 dogs they are responsible for on a given day. The teacher takes an active and engaged role in the execution of a daily program of activities in a dog day school setting that accounts for the individual needs of the individual dogs attending each day. The daily program is based on goals for each dog, set by the teacher with input from the customer, and is attained through the creative application of knowledge of animal behavior and fear free dog training by the teacher. Every day should be focused on moving toward achieving the individual goals for each dog. A successful teacher, after training, will easily be able to identify and articulate behaviors and play styles they observe in their dogs, and they will know their dogs so well they will be able to plan entire days of activities around the individuals’ specific personalities and needs. The Montessori Teacher will also be able to easily adapt and change plans based on observations made throughout the day. At the end of the day, the teacher will be able to communicate progress toward the goals through excellent written and verbal communication with customers.

About the Company:
Patrick’s Pet Care began in 2012 as a dog walking, pet sitting, and dog day care company. We have received numerous #1 “Best of DC” awards and “Top Pet Care Provider” accolades in publications such as Washington City Paper, Washingtonian magazine, Forbes, Washington Business Journal, and Washington Post; we have earned hundreds of five-star reviews on Yelp, Google, and Facebook.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have re-branded and pivoted to become a canine-human-enrichment company that provides Dog Montessori School, Fear- Free Dog Grooming, Enrichment Dog Walking, and Force-Free Dog Training. We are committed to celebrating the human-animal bond and we are resolved to do so with science-based fear free, force free, and pain free practices.

As the only Dog Montessori School and the only Fear-Free Grooming Salon in the nation’s capital, the demand for our services is greatly outpacing the supply of qualified teachers. That is where you come in. We are seeking fun, flexible, goal oriented and self-motivated teachers to join our team.

Patrick’s Pet Care is a mission-driven, women-managed, and gay-owned business that celebrates diversity in all its forms. Everyone who works here is paid well, with generous benefits, and the expectations are high. To find out more visit
