Are you ready to make a difference in your community? Option House, Inc. is recruiting for fresh, faces to work as Domestic Violence Advocates for its Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter program. All training is provided! We are currently hiring for evenings and weekends. Perfect for a college student.

Our Domestic Violence Advocates are responsible for providing support to victims of domestic violence participating in residing in our emergency shelter. Other responsibilities include provides crisis intervention and referrals on the 24-hour hotline to those seeking shelter and other services, not limited to domestic violence.

On a typical day, the Domestic Violence Advocates have the following responsibilities:

  • Answer 24-hour hotline calls to provide necessary assistance to callers
  • Provide direct services to victims of domestic abuse and their children including crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, advocacy, parenting support, information and referrals
  • Facilitate cooperative living, peer support and resident participation in shelter programming
  • Interact with shelter residents utilizing a trauma informed care approach while maintaining professional boundaries at all times and actively promote positive, nurturing interactions between adults and children in shelter
  • Assist with the daily living needs of shelter residents, including access to phone, food, medications and personal care items
  • Ensuring that the shelter is maintained in a clean, professional manner to facilitate healing for shelter participants

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; one to two years' related experience in a shelter setting preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • CPR (must receive within 3 months of employment)
  • 40-hour domestic violence certification (must receive within 3 months of employment)
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
