Purpose: The purpose of the Drafting and Engineering Manager is to supervise the D&E department, develop procedures, and coordinate plans with our Fabrication Manager.

Reports to: COO

Direct Reports: Drafting Coordinator, Fab Specialists, Fab Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt (Executive Exemption)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to meet or exceed all D&E related project budgets
  • Coordinate shop drawing review meetings with all pertinent parties
  • Review all project shop drawings for drafting accuracy, confirming what we draw is in alignment with the project budget
  • Confirm drawings include all necessary and accurate quality control details and are uploaded and current for other department accessibility
  • Oversee and train team members to be successful on all software platforms and system capabilities
  • Update shop drawings with architect’s comments, engineer comments, and field dimensions as necessary
  • Work with our engineers to confirm we are meeting budget expectations and considering efficiencies in the shop and field
  • Provide the PM team with accurate and timely material takeoffs that are double checked within the department
  • Work closely with COO on organization standards for drafting and engineering purposes
  • Update monitor sheet weekly with projected remaining budgets
  • Schedule out D&E team each week, assigning tasks according to each team member’s strengths and with the schedule and budget in mind
  • Stay in constant communication with PM Team, keeping the D&E department’s schedule up to date at all times and projecting out three weeks in advance the D&E work load
  • Build key relationships and assign outside drafters to draw projects, providing necessary feedback and understanding whom the right drafter is for the right project
  • Provide project design assistance
  • Minimize department CAPAs

Required Experience and Expertise

  • Well versed in Revit/BIM software, AutoCAD, LogiKal, Microsoft Suite, and Google platform
  • 10+ years glazing industry experience
  • Familiarity with various glazing systems: aluminum storefronts, aluminum curtainwall, and various glass systems, and the processes and procedures to fabricate and install same
  • Ability to point out design issues is a recommended skill
  • Ability to understand field dimensions in order to update shop drawings
  • Can read (and understand) architectural and structural drawings
  • Essential office skills: typing, computer literacy, and ability to navigate the internet
  • Excellent professional oral and written communication skills

Position Schedule: Full-time. This position is exempt from overtime pay and employees do not work in the context of an eight-hour day but work to accomplish their responsibilities, which may take longer than a 40-hour week.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
