Overview:

The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is a next-generation sawmill operator focused on sustainable, low-cost manufacturing of dimensional wood products. TLM is designing a state-of-the-art, modular sawmill to produce high-grade dimensional products with high efficiency. TLM is backed by leading investors including Cantos, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, Banter, and Ravelin Capital.

The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dry Side Sawmill Supervisor to lead daily dry side operations at our New Albany facility. In this key leadership role, you’ll oversee production teams, ensure safety standards are met, and streamline processes to deliver top-quality output efficiently. You’ll be responsible for optimizing workflows, fostering a strong team culture, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. Reporting to the Mill Manager, this full-time, salaried position plays a vital role in achieving operational excellence and advancing TLM’s continued growth. Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations in the dry side sawmill, including Kiln Drying, Planing, Trimming, material handling and grading of lumber.
  • Train, lead, and manage a team of sawmill employees, providing guidance, skills development, and performance evaluations. Foster a productive and motivated team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental regulations, and company policies. Develop and enforce proper use of equipment and personal protective gear.
  • Maintain production schedules, prioritize tasks, and conduct regular inspections to ensure product quality meets both company and customer standards, while adhering to delivery targets.
  • Manage compliance with product and process requirements, including throughput, yield, and efficiency targets and other similar metrics.
  • Monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs with maintenance as needed and to minimize downtime.
  • Track and analyze production metrics, implementing improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Coordinate across departments to maintain seamless workflows and timely product delivery.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in manufacturing, forestry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in sawmill operations or a related supervisory role, particularly on the dry side of lumber processing.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage teams effectively.
  • Technical knowledge of kiln drying, planing processes, and related machinery.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, quality control procedures, and production metrics.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and production tracking software.
  • Physical ability to work in a sawmill environment, including standing for extended periods and operating machinery.

Work Environment:

This role involves working in an industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery. The Dry Side Sawmill Supervisor must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and leading a team in dynamic conditions. The Dry Side Supervisor should expect to be on the floor for the majority of their time at work.
