Position Title: Early Childhood Prenatal- Age 3 Center-Base Family Educator

Location: This role operates in Knox County

Department: Early Childhood

Reports to: Director of Early Childhood Prenatal-Age 3 & Family Literacy

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

The Early Childhood Prevention Initiative Family Educator works alongside families and children prenatal- age 3 in Henderson, Knox, Mercer, and Warren counties. The Center- Base Family Educators visit with the children(s) weekly at the center providing 1:1 activities and with the families monthly in their homes to empower parents to be their child's first teacher through goal setting and child development activities that focus on each individual child's needs. Some target populations include Limited-English Proficient families, pregnant or parenting teens, families with low literacy levels, remote and isolated families, etc. This person will also collaborate with partnering agencies, communities, and schools in providing services and support for the efficient and effective use of grant funds in order to meet the needs of the children and families with the most at-risk factors present.

This role will also ensure complete and up-to-date database information for enrolled children and families, and report information to the Illinois State Board of Education through Student Information Systems (SIS). It will also complete intake and enrollment paperwork for families and provide monthly personal visits for all qualified families. This position will assistant families in setting personal goals for their children, themselves, and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, & CRITICAL SKILLS

1. DCFS Teacher Qualified: Sixy semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semesters or 9 quarters in courses related directly to child care/or child development, from birth to age six; or one year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience within a licensed child care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semester or 9 quarter hours related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six.

2. Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.

3. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

4. Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.

5. Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner. 6. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators and the general public.

7. Enforce ROE regulations and policies in a professional manner.

8. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils. 9. Be certified as a Parents as Teachers parent educator.

The Regional Office of Education is an intermediate agency between the Illinois State Board of Education and local school districts. The Regional Office of Education #33 works with nine districts across the four counties: Henderson, Knox, Mercer, and Warren. We have eight programs and nine different services, with over 100 employees throughout the four counties. These programs and services can be anything from parenting classes and professional development for area educators to bus driver training, fingerprinting, and much more.
