Chicago CRED Job Description

Job Title: Educational Support Tutor

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Education Coordinator


Chicago CRED is a mission driven organization working to achieve transformational reduction in violence in Chicago. CRED does its work by offering direct services to those who are at the highest risk of violence, advocating for policy reform to increase public investment into community violence interventions, and promoting cross-sector coordination to achieve maximum impact.

Department Function

  • The Education Department works to ensure that each participant who desires an online high school diploma will receive the assistance they need to pursue one. We believe this educational opportunity decreases the likelihood of violence and, therefore, is an integral part of Chicago CRED.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Educational Support Tutor will become an expert with the online Penn Foster High School curriculum
  • Assess and edit participants’ writing assignments
  • Monitor participants’ Penn Foster progress and assist as needed
  • Prepare appropriate learning materials and conduct tutorial sessions with individual participants or small groups in the areas of reading, mathematics, and writing
  • Communicate frequently with the Education Coordinator regarding participant progress and areas of concern
  • The Educational Support Tutor will work closely with staff involved with the wraparound services to provide a full circle of support
  • Administering education assessment to all participants joining the CRED family

Experience and Qualifications

  • 2 years teaching experience
  • Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and dependable; able to work with a team
  • Knowledge of/experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, etc.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education preferred


This position will be based in Chicago’s South Side, with local travel to site locations.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work with a computer for extended periods of time-up to 70%.
  • Ability to lift to 10 lbs.
  • The daily schedule is 9:00 am to 5:00 pm


$50,000/ year
