SUMMARY:
Automation & Electrical Controls Engineers are responsible for the complete outcome of assigned projects as relates to the engineering deliverables, including correct and accurate releases that meet the timelines and budgets agreed to at release meetings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, modify, and update PLC programming for each assignment
Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
Manage the process of engineering releases including drawings and bills of materials to meet As Sold expectations.
Develop the necessary drawings and/or schematics utilizing ANSI, ASEE and other nationally recognized standards.
Prepare complete release packages that meet deliverables and commitments.
Review any assignments given to others to complete for accuracy and timeliness.
Research, design, evaluate, or incorporate electrical products, equipment, systems, or processes to meet requirements.
Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
Develop and document Sequence of Operation (SOP), Cycle Time Analysis (CTA), and other documents to ensure the designs meet the requirements.
Develop, coordinate, or monitor all aspects of design, including selection of components.
Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
Develop or test models of alternate designs or processing methods to assess feasibility, sustainability, operating condition effects, potential new applications, or necessity of modification.
Respond to manufacturing questions regarding releases and projects going through manufacturing.
Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, or environmental regulations.
Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Assist others in the department in developing the drawings, designs, sub-assemblies, and assemblies, using computer-assisted drafting equipment or software.
Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, or repair to ensure that machines or equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
Participate in and lead all FAT’s (internal and customers).
Provide feedback to design engineers on customer problems or needs.
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
Estimate costs (materials, engineering hours, etc.) to submit to Sales and Applications when requested.
Recommend the use of utility or energy services that minimize carbon footprints.
Evaluate mechanical designs or prototypes for energy performance or environmental impact.
Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
Travel as necessary to customer sites.
Provide technical service to existing and future customers.
Perform close out review of all shipped projects and ensure as built drawings and documentations are updated.
Help evaluate potential projects to ensure we lower the risk and increase the potential for success.
Perform any other task or assignments as designated by the president.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
Minimum of four to five years’ experience in an engineering-to-order or OEM organization.
Minimum of five to seven years’ experience developing PLC programs for Allen Bradley products is a must; and other manufacturers’ products is a bonus
Experience with Packaging Machinery Equipment - conveying systems, fillers, labelers, palletizers, de-palletizers and other packaging equipment
Demonstratable experience in making decisions, solving problems, developing designs, and working on complex and difficult projects.
Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies and offerings.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook/Word/Excel/Access/Powerpoint/Project/Teams)
CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or similar)
Database user interface and query software (Access, Microsoft SQL Server)
ERP systems (Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, SAP, M2M, or similar)
Industrial control software (CNC, HMI, SCADA)
Adobe or similar graphics software
