Job Summary

Lays out, builds, troubleshoots and repairs developmental and production electronic components, parts, assemblies, equipment, and systems applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics. Responsible for verification and validation of product quality during production development and production phases. Analyses feedback related to product quality after official market release and provides suggestions/input for continuous product improvement based on field performance analysis.

Essential functions

  • Reads blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  • Provides general technical electro-mechanical support to the technical support, manufacturing and engineering departments.
  • Provides Electronics repair and services to the technical support department (customer electronics board repair services) using hand tools and soldering iron.
  • Fabricates small electronic subassemblies and cable harnesses for inventory as needed.
  • Packages all fabricated assemblies and reworked/repaired boards properly for shipment.
  • Provides basic schematic capture and board layout as directed.
  • Ability to use electronic lab tools (Oscilloscope, Function Generator, etc.).
  • Provides electronics prototype fabrication for R&D, production test and engineering.
  • Provides customer support and field technician assistance related to machine based electronics.
  • Provides failure analysis on returned or failed products from the manufacturing or field returned material pool and logs provided and collected data and information related to root cause analysis in a meaningful way.
  • Reports root cause analysis results in a summary report as needed/requested.
  • Coordinated with engineering regarding analysis of returned and failed products as well as suggested fixes or possible solutions.
  • Maintains and operates test and analysis equipment including oscilloscope, data acquisition terminals, etc.
  • Discuss layout and assembly procedures and problems with engineering and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electrical units.
  • Assembles experimental circuitry (breadboard) or complete prototype models, as required.
  • Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
  • Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production models.
  • Analyses and interprets test data.
  • Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, modifies circuitry and components and records on unit performance.
  • Writes technical reports and develops charts, graphs and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.
  • Checks functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Validates and tests new products as part of the new product release process to verify design function and serviceability.
  • Travels to suppliers to work on product quality issues, as needed.


  • Ability to work under tight timelines and with minimal supervision.
  • Detail oriented and well organized.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of electronic components and assemblies, and their functions, including basic electronic circuit analysis.
  • Must have knowledge of circuit board layouts and schematic capture capabilities.
  • Must have electro-mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • must have excellent soldering and solder re-work skills.
  • Must have understanding and experience of and in the use of basic electrical testing equipment, including digital multi-meters and oscilloscope.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office with focus on excel.

Required Educations and Experience

  • Associates Degree or euqivelant from two-year college or technical school: or two or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in electrical part and assembly inspection and failure analysis.
