POSITION: Domestic Violence Counselor
HOURLY WAGE: $25.00-26.00
REPORTS TO: Director of Shelter Operations
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Director of Shelter Operations, Therapists/Counselors are responsible for providing therapy and supportive services for clients residing in the emergency shelter - Adults, Children/Teen survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), Human Trafficking (HT), and/or Homelessness.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- 20hrs per week.
- This position requires flexibility based on agency needs. The Shelter is a confidential location staffed 24/7 by awake, Advocates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE:

- Therapy: Provide individual therapy to assigned clients (Adults, Children/Teen survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), Human Trafficking (HT), and/or Homelessness); lead groups dealing with IPV/HT and related issues for survivors. Ensure that child and teen groups are age- and issue-appropriate. Provide limited conjoint therapy for child clients and the non-offending primary caregiver as requested to further the child's treatment.
- Provide emotional support and assistance to clients, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming interpersonal abuse, adjusting to life, or making changes
- Guide clients in the development of skills or coping strategies.
- Identify primary areas of support, referrals, and advocacy with adult clients entering the shelter.
- Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and community referrals for clients.
- Assess clients for risk of suicide.
- Facilitate support groups for adults/children residing in the shelter when necessary.
- Adhere to organizational compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Ensure the completion of client-related paperwork, progress notes, and statistical reports per company procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.
- Maintain respect and confidentiality of all clients using services.
- Completes other duties as needed and/or requested by the supervisor to align with the mission and vision of the organization.
- Demonstrates Cultural Competency and sensitivity to vulnerable populations.
- Answers 24/7 hotline and provides direct one-on-one crisis counseling to primary and secondary victims of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking.
- Attends mandatory agency meetings and site-specific meetings and required training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have/be:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC), or registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker, Associate Marriage Family Therapist, Professional Clinical Counselor Intern.
- Minimum two years experience working as a Therapist in a similar setting with similar population.
- Must possess, or be able to complete a state-approved 40-hr training leading to certification as a DV counselor/advocate.
- Must possess, or be able to complete a state-approved 40-hour training leading to certification as an HT victim counselor/advocate.
- Completion of 1-hour Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for non-supervisory staff, every 2 years.
- Knowledge and experience with evidence-based practices, including trauma-informed care framework.
- Knowledge of domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault/abuse, as well as child abuse and neglect.
- Experience and sensitivity to the effects of trauma on survivors.
- Aware of California State Mandatory Reporting requirements
- Strong counseling/crisis intervention skills, including group facilitation skills.
- Excellent communication skills, Written and oral
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Sensitivity to the effects of trauma on survivors.
- Ability and willingness to work both individually and as part of a team with other staff in the provision of services to residents.
- Bilingual-Biliterate English/Spanish required. Ability to speak, read, write, comprehend, and translate English & Spanish.
- Must possess a valid CA driver’s license, proof of personal auto liability insurance & acceptance by our insurance carrier.
- Must receive clearance from the Department of Justice Criminal and Federal Bureau of Investigation record Offender Information database.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
- Have not been a resident of FCC Emergency Shelter or any other DV or HT shelter, not have been in a DV or HT relationship or recovering from sexual assault for at least two years.
COVID-19 Vaccination & Testing:
Please be aware that the Family Crisis Center requires all employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19 or complete weekly testing. This position will require the successful candidate to show proof of vaccination or set a routine testing plan with HR.

Motor vehicle, multi-line telephone, cell phone, personal computer, internet, email, copy and fax machines.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a Shelter setting, as well as throughout the community. The noise level in the work environment is typical of a busy shelter, ranging from quiet to moderately noisy.
