Full job description

Position Overview

The role focuses on maintaining, diagnosing, and servicing Building automation systems (BAS) — primarily Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems — to ensure HVAC and control systems are operating effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service & Maintenance: Preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and emergency repairs of automation systems.
  • Customer Interaction: Handling service calls, explaining issues, and proposing solutions.
  • Technical Tasks:
  • Troubleshooting DDC systems.
  • Performing system checkouts and supporting start-ups.
  • Working with protocols like BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP, and Niagara (AX/4).
  • Documentation: Completing service orders, reports, and job summaries.
  • Sales Insight: Identifying and quoting additional service opportunities.

Required Skills & Knowledge

Education/Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience in BAS controls OR an Associate’s degree in HVAC/Electrical Tech or Building Automations.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Basics of control systems and logic (loops, sensors, actuators, ladder logic/flowcharts).
  • Familiarity with Niagara (AX/N4 preferred).
  • Understanding of network protocols: BACnet IP, Modbus, LonTalk, TCP/I

Soft Skills:

  • Clear communication, customer service, and teamwork.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Adaptability and willingness to be on-call after 90 days.

Physical Demands

  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Standing/walking up to 75% of the shift.
  • Work may be conducted indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

Bottom Line

This is a solid entry-level role with hands-on exposure to real-world BAS environments, especially for those looking to gain experience in Niagara, BACnet systems, and HVAC controls. It's technical, physical, and requires good interpersonal skills — ideal for someone coming out of trade school or with a year of field service experience.
