Job description

Ecosystem Planning and Restoration, LLC, (EPR) has an open position for a full-time Environmental Scientist in our Columbia, MD office.

Our environmental planning services assist federal, state, municipal organizations, and private clients with their regulatory compliance needs. We have extensive experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related state regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Wetland and Forest Delineations & Assessments

· Assist with jurisdictional wetland and forest stand delineations in accordance with USACE (Corps) and applicable state/local guidelines.

· Perform functional assessments of forests, wetlands, and aquatic resources

Ecological Monitoring & Data Collection

· Implement monitoring protocols for wetland, stream, and riparian restoration projects.

· Collect, analyze, and interpret ecological field data, including vegetation surveys, hydrology monitoring, and soil sampling.

Restoration Planning & Design Support

· Assist in developing restoration plans including habitat assessments, and mitigation strategies.

· Provide input for restoration designs and collaborate with engineers and other team members.

Regulatory Compliance & Permitting

· Support preparation of permit applications (e.g., federal/state Section 404/401 permits, Nationwide and Individual permits and local Erosion and Sediment Control permits) and assist in regulatory agency coordination.

· Prepare technical reports, including baseline assessments, mitigation plans, and monitoring reports.

GIS & Mapping Support

· Assist with spatial data management using GIS to support project planning, fieldwork logistics, and report deliverables.

Project Management Support

· Assist project managers with budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of field teams and subcontractors.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

· Attend client meetings, agency consultations, and site visits to provide scientific input and field expertise.

· Communicate technical information clearly in both written and verbal formats to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.

Field Work & Travel

· Perform fieldwork in varying environmental conditions (e.g., remote sites, inclement weather, uneven terrain) and travel regionally as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred candidates will have 3 to 5 years of direct experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Ecosystem restoration and mitigation projects
  • Stream, wetland, and forest surveys and assessments
  • Environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
  • Delineation of jurisdictional waters and wetland boundaries
  • Environmental field assessments
  • Proficiency in field data collection, processing of wetland and forest data, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Experience supporting wetland and forest restoration design and implementation is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant computer applications; GIS experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, regulatory agencies, and team members.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically and perform fieldwork in a variety of conditions (e.g., remote locations, adverse weather, rugged terrain).
  • Ability to maintain flexibility with project assignments and work effectively in a collaborative team setting.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, from an accredited university. Degrees of interest include: Environmental Science, Ecology, Hydrology, Geology, Geomorphology, Landscape Architecture, Biology, Forestry or related field.
  • Master’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of required experience.

SALARY RANGE:

$57,000- $68,000

· The salary range for this position is $57,000 to $68,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
