Full job description

Provides students with significant cognitive disabilities with an individualized program that will enable them to reach their fullest potential.

EDUCATION AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

REQUIRED:

  • Meet State of Florida certification requirements for ESE Certification.
  • Valid Florida Driver License.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The tasks/competencies listed below represent most of the time spent working in this position. Supervisor may assign additional tasks within the scope of this classification as necessary.

1. Develop plans that integrate related services (Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy, Speech/Language, Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired) into daily activities.
2. Consult and train parents, professional staff, and supplementary agencies as it relates to student needs.
3. Maintain student records, i.e. audit file, data collection, report cards, IEP, and attendance.
4. Provide assessment of students for evaluations.
5. Provide doctor ordered medical procedures for students, i.e. administration of medication, tube feeding, suctioning.
6. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to integrate students of differing ability levels. Inservice classroom teachers as to students’ abilities and needs.
7. Provide for students daily living needs, i.e. toileting, feeding as necessary.
8. Develop and implement behavioral management programs for students.
9. Move students in and out of positioning equipment.
10. Perform supervisory duties as assigned by principal.
11. Use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote and enhance critical, creative, and evaluative thinking of students.
12. Use appropriate instruction strategies and materials that reflect each students’ culture, learning styles, special needs and socioeconomic background.
13. Fulfill the terms of any affected written contract and adhere to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida.
14. Assist in the enforcement of all federal, state, and district regulations, policies, and procedures.
15. Monitor students in a testing environment.

OTHER DUTIES:
Performs other duties as assigned commensurate with the skills and abilities of the position. Provides outstanding customer service and uses positive interpersonal communications skills. Makes all decisions and performs all tasks in accordance with Emma Jewel Charter Academy's strategic plan, vision, and mission. Ensures compliance with Board Policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

JOB RELATED:
Knowledgeable of curriculum trends for students with significant cognitive disabilities, including the alternate achievement standards and alternate assessment. Ability to use augmentative communication technology and therapeutic techniques for positioning and feeding. Ability to develop and implement behavioral programs and knowledge of medical procedures.

GENERAL:
Knowledge and use of time management and organizational systems. Skill in meeting and exceeding customer/stakeholder expectations within the precincts of policy, procedure, and sound judgement. Skill in active listening and social perceptiveness. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to sustain focus and attention to detail for extended periods of time.
