Position Summary
This position will have primary administrative responsibility for settling decedents’ estates and revocable trusts by providing a full range of settlement-related administrative activities including but not limited to: identifying, collecting, and valuing assets; preparing estate and trust accountings; reviewing and coordinating legal and tax matters; and the disposition of assets according to governing documents and laws. This position is ideal for a trust officer with a background in estate settlement. Potential candidates could also have experience in the fields of Fiduciary Tax Preparation, Estate Law, or Investments.
The Estate and Trust Settlement Officer’s responsibilities will include:
- Representing Fiduciary Partners with professionalism, confidentiality, and friendliness
- Acting as the primary contact person for assigned accounts, to include direct contact with beneficiaries, attorneys and other professional advisors through meetings, correspondence, telephone, email, etc.
- Working independently and as part of a team of professionals to provide cohesive and effective client service.
- This position will be responsible for handling a full range of estate related administrative activities, including: Identifying beneficiaries, providing proper notifications, and Identifying, collecting, and valuing assets.
- Ensuring proper set-up of new matters on trust accounting system.
- Attending to estate/trust owned real estate
- Overseeing and initiating all settlement account transactions.
- Establishing positive professional relationships with attorneys, investment advisors, and other client advisers.
Legal, technical, and compliance elements:
- Analyze estate plan documents, investment advisor agreements, etc.
- Prepare certain probate forms, inventories, and estate/trust settlement accountings.
- Plan and coordinate tax matters with tax preparers, communicate tax ramifications of estate/trust distributions with beneficiaries.
- Prepare complex distribution schedules and ensure distribution of assets in accordance with estate plan and legal requirements.
- Understand and apply legal regulations, internal procedures, and policies, including compliance documentation and account reviews.
Along with estate and trust settlement experience, an ideal candidate will have:
- High degree of comfort with legal, financial, security and taxation concepts.
- Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team of professionals to provide outstanding personal trust service.
- Excellent attention to detail with regard to numbers, documentation, and procedures
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Self-starter, highly motivated, needs minimal supervision.
- Assertiveness, keen sense of responsibility and ownership
- Prior trust company or law firm experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree (in relevant field) or equivalent work experience is required.
- Legal education or Juris Doctor preferred.
