Summary: L&G Research and Evaluation Consulting, Inc. is a small NYC-based company that offers expertise in conducting applied and scientific research studies and program evaluations in the fields of education, youth development, public health, public policy, and social services. We are a Minority and Women-Owned certified business in both New York State and New York City. Specifically, our services include participatory evaluation; grant writing; supporting community-based organizations/non-profits with contract procurements; survey design and administration; facilitating focus groups and in-depth interviews; data collection, management, and analysis; and report writing. Our current clients include New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) and community-based organizations providing youth development programming throughout New York City.

We are seeking hard-working individuals with strong analytical and communication skills to join our evaluation team. Candidates must also be energetic, highly organized, detailed oriented, diplomatic, and possess a friendly disposition. This is a job, but it is more than just filling in your time. We are looking for individuals who are truly committed to contributing to data-driven decision-making that will support local, state, and federal initiatives that promote equity in schools and communities. We are seeking candidates with a doctoral degree (or ABD) in psychology, sociology, education policy, youth development, program evaluation or other programs in the social sciences.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities of the Evaluation Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend planning and advisory board meetings at assigned schools.
  • Conduct site visits to observe programs to assess program quality and fidelity of program implementation.
  • Attend meetings held by the New York State Departments of Education and New York City Public Schools Office of Community Schools and participate in monthly webinars.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to clients regarding grant requirements, data collection procedures, and grant goals, objectives, and targets.
  • Conduct training regarding data collection and data entry procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure clients enter data into EZReports, an online data system that collects student demographic and attendance data.
  • Evaluate current program operations and outcomes, and apply research, data, and policy analysis to recommend program improvement strategies.
  • Develop, produce, and distribute site visit reports, mid-year evaluation reports, end of year evaluation reports, and weekly data entry compliance reports.
  • Participate in ad-hoc evaluation projects that L&G secures as needed.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills: The position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented and motivated individual. The ideal candidate must have a sound knowledge of program evaluation and research methodologies, effective communication skills, and thrive at the opportunity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Doctoral degree in education, psychology, sociology, statistics, or a closely related field, with a minimum of five years of professional experience or at least ten years of equivalent experience in non-profit, community development, or academic settings. Candidates should have a strong background in program evaluation or applied research within these environments;
  • Experience conducting formative and summative program evaluations associated with government or non-profit/community-based initiatives;
  • Demonstrated experience working with large urban school districts, after school programs and/or the NYC Public Schools;
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience gathering, analyzing and interpreting data;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, staff, and a wide range of external stakeholders (oral and written);
  • Strong computer skills (especially in Excel and other relational databases);
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment as well as independently;
  • Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure;
  • Ability to multitask while paying attention to details;
  • Ability to work remotely as needed and able to navigate online meeting platforms (i.e., Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams); and
  • Willingness to travel across the 5 boroughs of NYC. The position requires travel about 20-30% of the time throughout NYC; and
  • Must be legally authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Work Schedule/Location: During the first 90 days (i.e. probationary/on-boarding period) new staff will be expected to report for work at our office located in Lower Manhattan, 9 am. -5 p.m daily. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, staff may transition to a hybrid work schedule. (3 days in office and 2 days work remotely)
