About Ohio Recovery Housing

Ohio Recovery Housing supports the development and sustainability of quality recovery housing across the state. As an affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR), ORH promotes best practices, provides certification, delivers training and technical assistance, and advances policies that support individuals in recovery.

The Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead ORH’s strategy, operations, partnerships, and growth. This leader will serve as both a chief executive and statewide ambassador.

Ohio Recovery Housing (ORH) is an organization dedicated to the development and operation of quality alcohol and drug-free living in a community of recovery for people with substance use disorders. An affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR), ORH supports our associates in meeting the quality established by the NARR Standards.

Position Summary

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive leader of Ohio Recovery Housing (ORH), responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, financial health, and operational performance of the organization.

Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures that ORH fulfills its mission to expand access to quality recovery housing while maintaining strong organizational infrastructure, fiscal sustainability, and statewide impact.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of ORH’s strategic plan in alignment with Board direction
  • Translate strategic priorities into measurable goals, initiatives, and outcomes
  • Advise the Board on emerging trends, risks, and opportunities across recovery housing and related systems
  • Ensure alignment between mission, strategy, and daily operations

Financial Leadership & Organizational Stewardship

  • Provide full executive oversight of the organization’s financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Ensure strong fiscal controls, transparency, and accountability across all financial operations
  • Oversee grants, contracts, and revenue streams to ensure compliance and sustainability
  • Lead development and execution of diversified revenue strategies, including fundraising and partnerships
  • Partner with the Board to ensure long-term financial stability and growth

Operations & Program Oversight

  • Oversee all ORH programs and services to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with NARR standards
  • Ensure effective implementation of:

· Certification processes

· Grievance procedures

· Technical assistance and training programs

· Data collection and outcomes reporting

  • Maintain and improve operational systems, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure effective use of technology platforms, including certification systems, LMS, and data tools

Organizational Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, supervise, and support ORH staff and leadership team
  • Establish clear performance expectations, accountability structures, and evaluation processes
  • Foster a mission-driven, high-performance culture grounded in collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Build internal capacity to support organizational growth and evolving demands

Advocacy, Partnerships & External Relations

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of ORH
  • Lead statewide advocacy efforts, including policy engagement, testimony, and stakeholder collaboration
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, providers, funders, and community leaders
  • Strengthen ORH’s visibility and influence across Ohio and nationally

Innovation & AI Readiness

  • Lead the organization in adopting ethical, responsible, and effective use of technology and artificial intelligence
  • Promote an AI-ready workforce and operational environment
  • Identify opportunities to reduce administrative burden, improve service delivery, and enhance decision-making through technology

Board Engagement & Governance Support

  • Maintain strong communication and partnership with the Board of Directors
  • Support Board and committee activities with timely reporting, insights, and recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with bylaws, policies, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public policy, healthcare administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit leadership or executive-level management experience required
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational finances, budgets, and funding streams
  • Experience working with nonprofit boards and governance structures
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Experience in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and public representation
  • Familiarity with recovery housing, behavioral health, or related systems preferred
  • Familiarity with peer driven, social model environments is preferred
  • People with lived experience in recovery encouraged to apply
