Timeline for Hiring Process

Thank you for your interest in the Executive Director position. Please note the following timeline for the hiring process:

  • Application Period: The job posting will remain open and active until further notice.
  • Initial Review: Applications will be reviewed starting January 20, 2024.
  • Interviews: The first round of interviews is anticipated to begin in early February 2024.

Position Description
The Executive Director under the policies of the Board, provides leadership and oversees personnel, administrative, and fiscal management of the operation of the Emergency Support Shelter. Work in the community as an advocate for social change.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities

Personnel Management:

  • Hire and evaluate staff; initiate disciplinary action and termination as appropriate.
  • Schedule staffing to assure coverage.
  • Assess staff training needs; within budgetary constraints, assure the provision of training that assists staffing developing and maintaining job-related skills.
  • Assure maintenance of personnel files, including documentation of personnel actions.
  • Assure compliance with personnel policies and with appropriate federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Oversee arbitration of resident problems.
  • Provide support for staff, volunteers (including Board of Directors), clients and their families to advocate for social change around sexual abuse/assault and domestic violence issues at the community, state and federal levels.

Administrative Management:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate agency programs.
  • Maintain fiscal health of the agency; monitor revenues and expenses.
  • Prepare budgets and budget amendments.
  • Prepare grant applications.
  • Oversee bookkeeping; assure that expenses are in compliance with contracts, regulations and procedures.
  • Seek additional funding sources.
  • Assist the Board in fundraising activities.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports to Board and funding sources.
  • Develop and update agency procedures and practices.
  • Implement risk management and quality assurance programs.
  • Oversee facility upkeep, housekeeping and repairs.
  • Prepare and submit statistical and program reports to Board and funding sources.
  • Staff Board meetings; assist Board committees.
  • Oversee preparation and mailing of Board packets and materials.
  • Assist the Board in short and long range planning.

Fiscal Management:

  • Maintain fiscal health of the agency; monitor revenues and expenses.
  • Prepare budgets and budget amendments.
  • Prepare grant applications.
  • Oversee bookkeeping; assure that expenses are in compliance with contracts, regulations and procedures.
  • Seek additional funding sources.
  • Assist the Board in fundraising activities.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports to Board and funding sources.

Public Relations:

  • Coordinate with community agencies; advocate for agency programs and social change, services and clients.
  • Represent the Shelter to community agencies and groups; maintain positive community relations.
  • Assist in providing presentations and the Shelter, domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Coordinate agency advertising and public relations.

All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize workloads, work both independently and collaboratively, interpret and follow policies and procedures, work with interruptions and problem-solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and community members; ability to work with people from diverse age, ethnic, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and grammatically both verbally and in writing; must be comfortable with public speaking and be able to address sensitive issues in a non judgmental manner.
  • Ability to listen actively.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Governed by professional code of ethics which includes the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and guidelines. Supportive of agency programs, policies and philosophy.

Required Training and Experience:

  • Three years experience with non-profits or proven experience working with related business or any combination of work experience and education which demonstrates the ability to consistently perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience in grant writing, budgeting and fiscal management, and planning.

Desired Training and Experience:

  • BS or MS in related fields.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.
  • Experience working with the public in a community setting.
  • Management experience in domestic violence and sexual assault programs.
