HANOVER AND KING WILLIAM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (HKWHFH) EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Executive Director FLSA

Status: Exempt, salary

Reports to: Board of Directors

Job Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors and Habitat for Humanity International. The HKWHFH Executive Director will build upon a strong foundation of more than 30 years of affiliate success, while bringing their personal vision, passion, and commitment to the Habitat mission in Hanover and King William communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as staff officer to the Board of Directors.
  • Lead the Board of Directors in planning the future direction of HKWHFH and manage the strategic plan already in place.
  • Ensure the affiliate maintains the highest level of integrity in all its operations and is well-managed and efficient.
  • Manage staff to ensure all program, ReStore, financial and organizational goals are met by providing ongoing, clear feedback and setting performance expectations.
  • Provide leadership and support in all aspects of fund development.
  • Assume an active role in cultivating and managing large donors.
  • Guide the Controller, Treasurer and committees in preparing and monitoring policies as well as the preparation of a fiscal year budget of approximately $2 million.
  • Engage the Executive Committee when needed.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between HKWHFH and Habitat for Humanity International.
  • Communicate the vision, mission and direction of the organization to the Hanover and King William community.
  • Ensure the affiliate engages in an active advocacy role regarding affordable housing.
  • Undertake other leadership and management tasks as the need arises.
  • Play a leadership role in public speaking, media engagement, and event speaking as it relates to HKWHFH.
  • Expand the reach of HKWHFH by building and cultivating strong relationships with county leaders, business leaders, potential supporters, etc. in the Hanover and King William communities.
  • Cultivate and engage regular volunteers who are critical to the success of the organization.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • 5+ years management experience
  • 4-year degree in related field
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Fine attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable in a fast paced, dynamic environment that is constantly evolving
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, establish and communicate priorities, and to take initiative
  • Customer service focused
  • Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission
  • Proven record of team building and working in a team environment, with the highest levels of social and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong fiscal and organizational management skills
  • Skilled at building and fostering relationships across a broad scope of constituents, including volunteers, donors, clients, staff, funders, government, etc.
  • Preferred: experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably in affordable housing
  • Preferred: Knowledge of and a demonstrated track record of exercising leadership and management principals as they relate to non-profit/volunteer organizations
  • Preferred: Experience in working with major donors
  • Preferred: Knowledge of mortgage procedures and regulations, home construction, land acquisition and development, and retail sales
  • Some nights and weekends required
