Full-time, Exempt

Reports to the Pastor

The Director of Faith Formation administrates (designs, develops, directs, and evaluates) a total parish catechetical program and provides leadership to assist a parish community in building a solid foundation for adult and children spirituality, sacramental preparation, Christian living, ministry, and outreach.

  • Collaborates with the pastor to design catechetical programs which support lifelong learning into program planning.
  • Conducts needs assessments in the parish.
  • Integrates insights from current catechetical literature into program planning.
  • Develops goals, objectives, and strategies for the total religious education program.
  • Executes on the plan to serve faith formation needs of the parish.
  • Recruits/hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates catechists and support staff.
  • Maintains relationship with pastor, other parish staff members, commission, catechetical staff and Diocesan Office of Religious Education.
  • Develops individualized programs for parishioners with special religious education needs.
  • Identifies and enables leadership within the community to take responsibility for program components.
  • Conducts program evaluation at all levels (parish staff, catechetical staff, participants).
  • Support and assist with parish/Diocesan wide events as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS

  • Must be an active member of a Catholic community to express personal knowledge of the Catholic faith and commitment to Catholic ideals.
  • Requires BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and or certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning or equivalent experience.
  • A pastoral, prayerful person committed to personal and professional growth, with abilities to collaborate and delegate.
  • Competent in communications, interpersonal and relationship “people” skills, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Computer competent (e.g. Microsoft Office) and Social Media competent.
  • Possess planning, management, relationship, and communication skills with the ability to utilize these skills in a pastoral manner.
  • Understand life-long catechesis, the catechumenate process, lay ministry and evangelization.
  • Plan, develop and direct the parish RCIA program, Sacramental programs, and Adult Formation programs.
  • Flexibility and availability to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Experience: The Director of Faith Formation is expected to have a minimum of three years teaching experience conducting a parish faith formation program or equivalent and at least one year of paid administrative experience.
  • Successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training
