Full job description
Position Overview:
York County is accepting applications for a Female Corrections Officer. To qualify for the position of Corrections Officer, you must have completed FTO training for Corrections Officer and Jail Management training through the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center within twelve (12) months of hire. The Corrections Officer is appointed by the York County Sheriff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Has complete knowledge of the policies and procedures governing the York County Jail facility.
- Has complete knowledge of the procedures and regulations contained in the York County employee manual.
- Maintain proper communications with all personnel and in doing so insures that a positive working relationship is maintained at all times.
- Responsible for the daily care of the county jail and all inmates.
- Reports directly to the Assistant Corrections Jail Administrator and the Corrections Jail Administrator.
- Responsible for recording all inmate files, paperwork, and documents.
- Responsible for searching all inmates entering the jail facility.
- Responsible for cleaning cells, hallways, restrooms, office, booking room, kitchen, laundry room, garage, and all storage rooms.
- Follow all directives, regulations, and instructions.
- Responsible for inmate booking procedures, photographing, finger printing, searching, along with cash and property inventory.
- Follow all regulations and procedures set forth by Jail standards.
- Maintain a secure and clean working environment for the inmates and correctional staff.
- Responsible for dispensing and documenting inmate medication.
- Complete mandated security cell checks and contraband cell searches.
Qualifications:

- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of Database software; Internet software and Word Processing software.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Jail Management Certification NLETC
