First Year Full-Time Instructor Job Posting

June 2024

Summary

First Year full time instructors train apprentices in universal skills and knowledge across disciplines. Full time instructors train apprentices in universal skills and knowledge in their respective disciplines. Instructors teach in person several weeks per year and are available for in-person apprentice meetings, contests, and to support testing.

Full-time instructors are based in the Tualatin Training Center and no travel or instruction at satellite training centers is required currently. However, some travel to satellite locations for special programming may be required from time to time.

Reports to: Curriculum Coordinator

Direct Reports: None

Status: Full-time Salary Exempt, At-will, Non-represented

Pay: $2,700.04 weekly, approximately $140,402.08 annually

Required Certifications, Licenses, Education and Skills:

  • Required License and Certifications in the applicant's specific trade;
  • LEB Oregon (in the HVAC/R trade)
  • Plumbing License Oregon (in the Plumbing Trade)
  • Class 5 Boiler License (in the Steamfitting or HVAC/R)
  • 5 + years' experience as a Journey worker or higher in their trade, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Forms
  • Working knowledge of Teams and other online video conferencing systems including Zoom
  • Experience and comfort using iPads
  • Any other certifications necessary to instruct with authority and to maintain compliance

Preferred Experience:

  • Current UA Certifications
  • OSHA 30
  • Basic Life Support + First Aid
  • Experience leading a complex project
  • 10+ years' experience as a Journey worker in the field, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
  • 1+ years as a current or former instructor in the same or similar apprenticeship program
  • ITP Instructor Certification
  • Associates Degree or other professional certification related to the trade

The following work activities will be preferred and helpful:

  • Curriculum development work experience
  • Project Management experience is helpful
  • Experience working as an instructor in a similar environment

Industry Knowledge that will be helpful:

  • Understanding of trade apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs
  • Advanced knowledge of licensing and certification requirements

Environment

This position is on site, and is a mix of seated work at a computer, walking, bending, and using tools, climbing ladders, work at floor level and above, sometimes on knees and other positions in the course of building trainers, climbing, pulling, occasionally driving long distances, occasionally using a forklift, and regularly using vision to inspect work product. Regularly lifting 50 lbs. The main campus where the job mostly takes place is large and flat, significant walking is required to get from each area of the building.

Travel

There are currently six (6) training centers in the state of Oregon and one (1) in California, with a future site planned to be opened in Washington. Some travel to satellite locations may be required from time to time.
