Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Client Advocate and Mentor to support LGBTQ+ youth in navigating their personal journeys with confidence, resilience, and authenticity. In this vital role, you will serve as a trusted guide, providing mentorship, advocacy, and social support to young individuals facing unique challenges related to their gender identity and sexual orientation. Responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships with LGBTQ+ youth by offering empathetic listening, guidance, and encouragement.
- Advocate for clients’ needs within educational institutions, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure access to appropriate resources.
- Develop personalized mentoring plans that promote self-esteem, resilience, and positive identity development.
- Facilitate group activities, workshops, or support circles focused on topics such as mental health, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships.
- Collaborate with local service providers to connect youth with counseling, addiction support services, or other specialized assistance.
- Manage crisis situations effectively by de-escalating conflicts and providing immediate emotional support.
- Document progress through detailed case notes while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to privacy standards.
- Provide transportation to youth as needed
- Keeping space clean and organized
- Provide meals as needed
Requirements
- Must be 21+ with a vaild driver's license
- Demonstrated experience working with children or youth in educational, social work, or mentorship settings.
- Strong understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, identities, and the unique challenges faced by queer youth.
- Proven mentoring skills with the ability to inspire trust and foster positive growth.
- Knowledge of social work practices and addiction counseling techniques is highly desirable.
- Excellent conflict management abilities combined with patience and active listening skills.
- Ability to teach life skills or coping strategies in engaging ways tailored to diverse audiences.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and promotes safety for all youth. Available Shift: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm
Would prefer candidate to have their Youth Peer Support Specialist Certification or must be able to complete the youth peer support specialist certification within 90 days of hire.
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
