Pathways is a transdisciplinary program that serves students who have various neurophysiological disorders, which affects their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. This impacts their ability to move, learn and communicate in the same way as their typically developing peers. The modified common core curriculum will be highly individualized and tailored to each students’ learning needs which include but are not limited to: learning style, learning rate, and access.

We are committed to the learning of students with very high needs in most or all need areas, including academic, social and/or interpersonal development, physical development and management. Via the application of a high degree of individualized attention and intervention, very intense individual programming, continual adult supervision, and a program of physical, occupational and speech/language therapy, it is our mission to enable this under-served community to access the information and experience that will enable them to both understand and interact with their world.

We are seeking a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist looking to grow with a small school. The ideal candidate will have the following:

· 3+ years experience preferred

· experience teaching non-verbal, non-ambulatory children

· team player

· inherent belief that children with severe medical, physical and cognitive complexities can learn

· outside of the box thinker

· knowledge of or ability to quickly learn low and tech AAC, data collection and other research methodology

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. NYSED Licensure requirement: General Requirements

Any use of the titles occupational therapist, physical therapist, Speech language therapist and the like within New YorkState requires licensure or authorization as an occupational therapist, physical therapist, and speech teacher respectively.

To be licensed as a school based therapist in New York State you must:

be of good moral character

be at least 21 years of age

meet state and city education and examination requirements

2. Applicants must be fingerprinted to obtain employment with the Pathways Children’s School. Cleared fingerprint results and eligibility for employment may change depending on the outcome of any investigations, as well as any arrests or changes in your Pathways employment status that may have occurred after the date you were printed.

3.At least 2 years of experience with students with complex needs preferred.

4. NYC DOE SOPM familiarity a must.

JOB GOAL: Related Services means developmental, corrective, and other supportive services that are required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from his/her instructional program.Related services are developmental, corrective and other support services as expected by the philosophy and mission of the program required to assist a student with a disability to benefit from instruction.

Occupational Therapy Program candidate to be familiar at a middle career expertise data collection, Sensory IntegrationMechanics, Adaptive and Assistive devices, Functional ADLs, Swimming program,Prevocational Program planning, AAC programs, Mayor-Johnson/PECS communication symbols usage, oral-motor and feeding programs, common-core standards adaptation in special education classrooms.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS AND DESCRIPTIONS(aligned to NYC Education Standards, dependent on the type of Related Service)

1. Related& Contractual Services-Contracted therapy services are issued a transmittal requesting service when there are no Department of Education therapists available to serve students. A Related Service Authorization (RSA) is issued only when a contracted agency cannot provide the service. RSA (Related ServiceAuthorization) allows a family to secure an independent provider paid for by the Department of Education.

2. AdaptiveEquipment- The right adaptive equipment allows students greater access to curriculum and activities throughout their educational experience.

3. Occupational Therapy Services- OccupationalTherapy (OT) are one of the related services under Part B of IDEA that may be provided to support a student's Individualized Education Program.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with Department of Education of NYC salaries.
