Position Overview:

We’re seeking an experienced and dynamic Sous Chef to join our leadership team. In this key role, you’ll work closely with our Head Chef and Executive Chef to manage the kitchen team and oversee high-volume food production. The ideal candidate has a strong managerial background, thrives in leadership roles, and brings exceptional organizational skills. At Westerly, the Sous Chef is not only a culinary expert but also an essential leader responsible for team mentorship, operational efficiency, and maintaining a harmonious kitchen culture.

Sous Chef M-F Schedule:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday: 8am - 4:30pm
  • Tuesday: 8am - 4:30pm
  • Wednesday: 12pm - 8pm
  • Thursday: 8am - 5pm
  • Friday: 8am - 4:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Serve as a vital member of the Westerly leadership team, actively participating in management discussions, strategy sessions, and training initiatives.
  • Conduct daily team briefings, provide feedback, and foster a positive work environment.
  • Mentor, guide, and support kitchen staff, ensuring a cohesive, efficient kitchen operation.
  • Lead by example, setting clear expectations and inspiring the team to achieve high standards in food quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Implement solutions to improve kitchen efficiency and address staff, equipment or operational challenges.

Supporting the Head Chef

  • Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and daily kitchen operations in collaboration with the Head Chef.
  • Execute essential managerial tasks, including scheduling, timesheet review, prep list assignments, inventory management, and performance evaluations.
  • Take charge in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and team alignment on goals.

Kitchen Operations & Quality Control

  • Assist in executing the 13-week rotating menu, including preparation of a diverse range of cuisines, ensuring timely and accurate preparation.
  • Oversee high-volume batch cooking processes, ensuring that meals are prepared according to recipes and quality standards.
  • Utilize kitchen management tools, such as menus, prep lists, and Google spreadsheets, to maintain meal accuracy and a structured and organized operation.
  • Inspect and taste-test dishes to ensure they meet company standards for taste, texture, and presentation.
  • Adjust cooking methods and recipes as needed to maintain quality and accommodate ingredient availability.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Uphold food safety and hygiene standards across all kitchen practices, ensuring a compliant kitchen environment and quality in every dish.
  • Conduct regular health and safety training sessions to ensure all team members understand and adhere to food safety and hygiene protocols.

Inventory & Cost Management

  • Assist in managing kitchen inventory, receiving supplies, and ensuring proper storage to prevent cross-contamination and spoilage.
  • Monitor ingredient levels, report needs for reordering to prevent shortages and minimize waste to control costs while maintaining quality.

What You Bring:

  • 2+ years of experience in a high-volume, professional kitchen environment, with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Proven managerial skills with a strong focus on team development, organization, and operational excellence.
  • Passion for high-quality, health-conscious food and a team-oriented approach to culinary excellence.
  • Excellent communication skills and familiarity with technology tools similar to Google Sheets, Slack, and scheduling softwares.

Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
