We are looking for a General Manager to oversee all staff, budgets and operations of Chester Bird Post 523 American Legion. General Manager responsibilities include formulating overall strategy, managing people and establishing policies. To be successful in this role, you should be a thoughtful leader and a confident decision-maker, helping our people develop and be productive, while ensuring our profits are on the rise. Chester Bird General Manager Duties

* Handle the administrative front and back of house tasks of daily operations which includes: shift scheduling and coverage, marketing and website coordination, record keeping, inventory control, invoicing, overseeing restaurant and bar equipment maintenance and replacement, payroll, and guest relations. Maintain accurate daily sales reports, ATM cash reconciliation, and accounts payable. Maintain perpetual inventory of beer, wine, liquor, food and supplies.

*Establish SOP guidelines for employees to follow to ensure that their area of responsibility is properly stocked cleaned and maintenance issues are documented at end of shift.

* Monitor proactive enforcement of house rules and site security, to include video monitoring and security systems, review of bar red book and incident log entries.

* Supervise employee conduct to include progressive discipline and termination if required, yearly employee evaluations and counseling on an ongoing and an as needed basis.

*Recruitment and training of new employees as needed.

* Follow and execute all state safety, sanitation, and alcohol compliance employee training as required.

* Operate and change out beverage rail systems.

* Work with the Post bookkeeper to prepare the quarterly and yearly budget and present monthly profit and loss statements to the Executive Board.

* Operate and interpret the point-of-sale system for the daily sales report. Utilize the current daily sales report to identify periods of reduced profitability.

* Oversee operation of the kitchen; provide direct/indirect supervision of kitchen manager and kitchen staff, menu development, food cost, plate cost, ongoing meal specials, and promotional meal events. Aggressively seek opportunities for banquets, and catering events both on and off premises.

* Maintain inventory and place orders with vendors in a timely fashion so there are no product shortages. Maintain a practice of competitive price shopping to continue to improve our cost of goods.

* Ensure that entryways and walkways are shoveled and salted before opening and during business (this includes the pad for the barbeque and the entrance to the storage shed.

*Over see the maintenance and cleanliness of outdoor spaces, such as lawn care and patio, BBQ slab and recreational areas (volleyball courts)

*Monitor site cleanliness and monitor subcontractor performance and site security issues associated with unsupervised after hour’s access to facility.

*Monthly establish goals from the previous month for pouring cost, food cost, labor costs and controllable expenses to be reported at the monthly Executive Board meeting.

*Demonstrate the ability to aggressively market the organization through the use of the Post Marketing Manager / social media and Electronic Message Center.

The General Manager of Operations is considered to be the most important compensated position in this organization. The learning curve for an experienced individual is a minimum of six months to one year. The ability to provide emergency shift coverage is expected as is the ability to be a able to lift at least at least 40 pounds.
