Who We Are / Overview

For nearly 100 years, Denver’s Jewish Community Center (the “J”) has strived to build a community where everyone feels like they belong. The center was founded in 1922 as a place of refuge for the Jewish people of Denver, where they could safely gather under one roof to celebrate their cultural heritage.

Since then, the J has evolved into something more—more than a single building, more than just a gathering place, and more than individual departments and programs. Today, the J is an inclusive community that extends beyond its walls in which they do business. Today, they open their doors to anyone who wants to celebrate life and be a part of something more.

The athletic amenities at the J are expansive, including over 80 fitness classes a week, a full court gymnasium, heated indoor and outdoor pools, yoga and Pilates studios, a group cycling studio, personal trainers, state of the art workout areas, a small group training studio, steam room, hot tub, drop-in childcare, massage therapy, and an indoor tennis facility.

Position Announcement

The Staenberg-Loup Denver Jewish Community Center is seeking a dynamic General Manager for our recently fully renovated center. We are looking for an energetic, creative, and enthusiastic leader who will join our senior leadership team and will oversee our full-service facility including our fitness center, aquatics center, tennis center and childcare center. The role is critical to the success of transforming the JCC Denver, growing our membership, and moving our vision forward. This individual will engage regularly with the community, lay leaders, the JCC Denver team and national organizations. Our center provides services including, personal training, exercise programs, massage therapy, reformer Pilates, yoga group exercise, a full aquatics program and a childcare drop off center. The General Manager oversees the center’s staffing, accounting, budget and market analysis.


  • Drive fitness department revenues ensuring that fiscal success and net profit goals are achieved.
  • Provide direct and indirect supervisory responsibility for all of the fitness and wellness employees and provide appropriate leadership in accordance with the JCC Denver.
  • Create and execute business plans, develop and implement best practices to ensure success and continued growth.
  • Monitors budgets, forecasts revenue and expenses for each department monthly/quarterly/annually
  • Monitors supplies, payroll and expenses for each department
  • Cultivate a high-performance engaging culture that develops, empowers, and recognizes great employees and while delivering top customer service, exceptional programs, and an immaculately clean, safe club to members.
  • Meets one-on-one weekly with each department manager to ensure KPIs are followed and the departments are meeting and exceeding budgetary goals
  • Work with the Director of Membership on recruiting, retention and onboarding of members
  • Team with the Engagement department at the JCC to move the One J program forward.
  • The successful candidate is expected to be self-motivated, self-reliant, organized, driven to succeed, and able to handle concurrent projects and assignments.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in fitness, retail, or hospitality industries
  • 5+ years of experience managing 50+ athletic club related team members
  • 5+ years of experience managing profit and loss statements/revenue budgets
  • Proven track record of sales goal achievements
  • CPR and AED certified, or willing to obtain upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hospitality and customer retention
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Sales or fitness experience
  • Experience managing multiple departments at once
  • Experience managing 2MM+ in top line revenue

Physical Demands and Working Environment

The position requires the candidate to remain in a seated position for prolonged hours in an office environment. While performing duties, the candidate is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Candidate must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifteen pounds. Working conditions may include being in an open (shared) cubicle or workspace.
