Three Keys Coffee, named by Food & Wine as the Best Coffee Roaster in TX, is a fast-growing, award-winning coffee roasting business based in Houston, TX. Started in 2019 by a Professional Engineer and an MBA, Three Keys Coffee was formed as an expansion of founders mutual passion and hobby of roasting and consuming specialty coffee.

Since formation, Three Keys has been shipped to all 50 states and even landed a 40+ store partnership with Trader Joe’s within its first year of business. Three Keys has won a Sprudgie award for Best Packaging Design in 2020 and was nominated as a finalist for Notable Roaster in 2021. Three Keys has also received numerous 92pt+ reviews by Coffee Review, including their “Congo Square” which was named one of the top 25 coffees of 2021. Our founder and head roaster placed 9th overall in the 2023 US Roaster Championship finals competition, 5th in the US Roaster Championship Qualifiers, and 1st place in the US Roaster Championship Preliminaries.

General Management and Advisory

  • Coordinate with and advise the roastery team and café operations team on a regular basis to ensure sufficient communication and overall optimization, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of business operations and growth initiatives
  • Maintain efficiency tools (Box, Google Drive, Trello, etc)
  • Compiling information and data for pitch decks, presentations, and other business summary needs
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments in the coffee industry and related industries (e.g. climate, sustainability, etc) and share knowledge among the team
  • Provide suggestions on plans for coffee program based on global conditions and harvest schedule
  • Provide perspective, as needed or requested, as industry leader on coffee program and roastery operations
  • Represent company at events, trainings, webinars, workshops

Sales/Marketing/Customer Operations

  • Coordinate schedule, requirements, and needs for roastery and café divisions
  • Review sales metrics and performance across roastery and café divisions and across sales channels to identify trends and issues, recommending adjustments as needed
  • Respond to customer email inquiries
  • Understand marketing and social media trends and recommend strategies

Wholesale Relationship Engagement

  • Engage with restaurants, cafes, coffeeshops, etc nationwide to expand wholesale account
  • Identify opportunities for strategic collaborations, partnerships, or sponsorship of events/charitable causes
  • Build relationships with wholesale customers to ensure quality and satisfaction
  • Follow up on wholesale inquiries and requests for samples

Website Maintenance and Shopify Administration

  • Add and update products, including inventory/pricing updates and images
  • Update customer profiles as needed (addresses, emails, etc)
  • Subscription management and optimization
  • Procure and coordinate with designers on website improvements
  • Post banners for alerts and messages (e.g. holiday closures)

HR Operations

  • Maintain operations schedules and plans for roastery and employees; coordinate staff meetings and agendas
  • Run weekly payroll
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard candidates; create contractor and employment agreements
  • Develop and maintain company policies and procedures

Accounting/Finance/Legal Operations

  • Review financials; reconcile purchasing card expenses
  • Review company expenses, create and track team budgets, pay invoices
  • Determine best pricing on supplies (procurement)
  • Generate customer invoices
  • Determine pricing for coffee products and conduct margin analysis
  • Ensure maintenance of licenses, permits, certifications, etc

Growth Initiatives and Public Relations

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborations
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to increase retail/wholesale sales
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for sponsorship of events, making connections and contacts where needed
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for media placement (magazines, news outlets, podcasts, etc)

Project Coordination

  • Planning of events, coordination, and support through event day
  • On-site presence at popups or other similar in-person events; assist with planning and preparation for events
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects and ensure they remain on track and within scope
  • Research, identify, and execute continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency and productivity
