Job Description

Position Title: Grant Coordinator

Reports To: Development Director

Status: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Hourly pay $23

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm; this position requires availability for occasional weekends and evening events.

Summary: The Grant Coordinator is a member of the Development Team and is responsible for all aspects of grant activities in compliance with Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino (FARSB)’s Strategic Plan and annual Development Team goals and objectives.

The Grant Coordinator serves as a liaison between FARSB and corporate, private, and government funders. As a member of the Development Team, this position is involved in strategizing and meeting FARSB’s grant fundraising goal of over $2 million through involvement in organization planning and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of FARSB, including its mission, vision, values, history, programs and services, and plans for the future.
  • Identify, research, and evaluate new grant funding opportunities from corporations, foundations, organizations, and various government entities.
  • Prepare, write, and submit timely proposals that accurately and ethically represent FARSB’s programs, services, needs, and goals. Adhere to strict deadlines and other criteria for submission.
  • Develop, collect, analyze, prepare, and maintain information/data needed for reporting.
  • Maintain master grant calendar; maintain files on all proposals, awards, and funders, including applications, correspondence, and reports.
  • Develop and update a tracking system for all submitted proposals and grants to ensure timely reporting and follow-up.
  • Liaise with Finance regarding budget preparation.
  • Liaise with the Programs and Partner Relations Team to keep pace with FARSB’s Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Management Team to facilitate funder site visits, including presentations on funding proposals and grant opportunities for prospective funders.
  • Assist in research to identify new prospects to meet FARSB’s fundraising needs.
  • Write direct mail thank you and status update letters for grant funders.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all staff members and external partners.
  • Assisting the Development Team as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned


· Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field

· One (1) year of professional grant writing or equivalent writing experience required

· Experience in fundraising with a demonstrated track record of researching, writing, obtaining, and maintaining a portfolio of grants.

· Self-starter who can take initiative and work with minimum supervision.

· Ability to write clearly and concisely, incorporating quantitative data and compelling stories.

· Knowledge of development principles, fundraising techniques, and ethics.

· Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

· Capacity to think strategically, as well as creatively

· Ability to maintain excellent quantity and quality of work in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment

· Maintain a valid California driver’s license and insurance

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors/Organization Requirements:

· Ability to lift 25 pounds

· Extended periods of sitting at desk on phone and computer

· Office and distribution center environment with moderate noise at food bank location

· Conduct tours throughout the 70,000 sq. ft. Food Bank facility

· Able to drive throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties for meetings and events
