Full job description

We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Graphic Designer and Prepress Technician to join our team. This role combines both graphic design responsibilities and prepress tasks. This role is crucial in ensuring that artwork is prepared correctly for screen printing. The successful candidate will assist with graphic design, prepare artwork, and collaborate closely with both design and production teams.

Graphic Design Responsibilities:

  • Color Separation: Create accurate and precise color separations for screen printing using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc).
  • Design Support: Collaborate with the design team to create, modify, and adapt designs for screen printing, embroidery, and promotional products.
  • Artwork Editing: Perform image retouching, color correction, and manipulation to enhance design aesthetics.
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively with the design team, production staff, and management to meet project objectives and deadlines.
  • Technical Proficiency: Stay updated with the latest design software, tools, and techniques relevant to the screen printing and promotional products industry.

Prepress Technician Responsibilities:

  • Screen Preparation: Prepare screens for printing by coating with emulsion, exposing, spraying out, & taping.
  • Screen Organization: Maintain inventory of ready to burn screens, and organization of prepped screens ready for use by print team.
  • CTS Machine Operation: Operate a Computer-To-Screen (CTS) machine to create high quality screens. Ensure the CTS machine is properly calibrated and maintained.
  • File Management: Manage digital artwork files
  • Quality Control: Inspect exposed screens for any defects, inaccuracies, or registration issues. Make adjustments and corrections as necessary.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to the CTS machine, exposing unit, and other prepress equipment. Perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the production team to address prepress challenges, such as color adjustments, registration, and image placement.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of screen exposure settings, job specifications, and any corrective actions taken.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in graphic design or a related field is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Experience in prepress operations, file preparation, and familiarity with RIP software is preferred.
  • A strong eye for detail, creative aptitude, and a passion for design.
  • Knowledge of design principles, typography, and color theory.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and staying updated on design and prepress trends and industry best practices.
  • Previous experience in a graphic design or prepress role in a screen printing context is beneficial.

*Compensation is based on relevant experience - color separations, graphic design for apparel decoration, screen printing pre-press work.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
