Full job description
The Groundman position is the first step to become a journeyman lineman with Firelands Electric Cooperative, Inc. We are accepting applications until September 30th. Current Apprentice Linemen or Journeymen Linemen will be considered for this job opening. Pay is based on experience and education. The pay listed below is based on the Groundman wage range.
Duties include:
- Performs all the necessary activities in the construction and maintenance of energized and de-energized overhead and URD distribution lines.
- Patrols the line and checks for defective materials, equipment, or unsafe conditions and notifies the foreman or supervisor of problem areas.
- Inspects work after completion to ensure that it has been done in accordance with applicable specifications and codes.
- Understands considerable hazards that exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects. Understands and utilizes safety and protective equipment. Learns and complies with all safety policies, rules, and regulations.
- Sees that assigned vehicles, tools and equipment are operated in accordance with all rules and regulations and are in good and safe working order.
- Completes all record keeping duties in an accurate and timely manner.
- Completes training courses and passes tests, as needed, to continue working towards the position of apprentice lineman.
- Assists other sections and departments by providing necessary information to meet the Cooperative’s objectives.
- Completes all other duties as assigned to meet the section, department, and Cooperative’s goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
To complete this job successfully, this individual should be highly motivated to learn new skills and have an aptitude to perform technical tasks.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required and technical training in the field of electricity is desired. Progressive experience may be considered in lieu of or as an equivalent to a portion of the educational requirement. This position requires on-going special training to meet the section, department, and Cooperative’s goals and objectives.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS
- The individual must hold and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class A within three months of hire date.
- Specific skills must be developed to advance to the apprentice lineman program.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work consists of sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, pulling, and the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.25 - $28.75 per hour

Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
Work Location: In person
