Full job description
Position Purpose:
Serves as a crew leader in the Grounds Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department.
Supervision:
Oversees grounds crew assigned to the Grounds Maintenance Division which will be at least one other person. This position will primarily receive direction from the Town Administrator.
Essential Duties:
- Mow grass and trim bushes and trees on town property and right-of ways including on alleyways, roads, signage, and other areas as instructed.
- Install and maintain Christmas Decorations and Lights provided by Town.
- Setup and Prepare areas for Events and assist event coordinator at events.
- Clean, maintain and organize various storage locations owned by the Town.
- Provide “handyman” service for the Police Department and Town Hall.
- Provide assistance to Sanitation Division when needed for trash pickup and limb pickup.
- Promotes safety and improves work procedures and methods.
- Keep accurate records on attendance, maintenance of vehicles and equipment, DHEC, work orders, etc.
- Work with Spartanburg County Roads & Bridges to keep up roads.
- Be on 24 hours call for any emergency weather related problems and report any unsafe conditions. May need to remove downed trees and limbs blocking traffic on roads.
- Evaluate and be responsible for working within the street department budget.

Job Environment:
Work is performed during the day usually from early morning to midafternoon, many times without regular supervision. Some weekends will be required with ample notice. Personal safety equipment and apparel will be provided and must be used. The position will be responsible for at least one other individual that will assist in job responsibilities.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
High school education or GED; Must possess a valid state CDL Class B driver’s license with appropriate endorsements (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire) and requires 1-3 years of experience in the operations of landscaping. SC license to apply weed killer (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). Town will cover all costs associated with obtaining and maintaining these licenses if the applicant does not already have them.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of operating lawncare equipment; thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of equipment; skill and care in the operation of the equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. All activities will be performed outside in the elements; however, personal protection equipment and safety apparel will be provided. Must be physically able to perform manual labor and lift and/ or carry weights of approximately one hundred pounds. Communicates verbally and in writing.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
