Position Description

ARC seeks a dedicated, experienced and compassionate self-starter to join the Hope and Redemption Team (HART) as a Life Coach working inside a women's prison. The ideal candidate for this position has both lived experience and demonstrated experience in supporting formerly incarcerated women from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and life choices. This position requires full and thorough knowledge of the specific and unique needs of this community.

Each HART member will be responsible for supporting and implementing rehabilitative programming to support women in their journey towards reentry and rehabilitation at one or more California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) institutions. Hope and Redemption Team Members will play a critical role in the organization, bringing hope and opportunity to incarcerated individuals, and preparing them for their continued relationship with ARC upon release.

Responsibilities

  • Create and lead Inmate Leisure Time Activity Groups (ILTAGs) specifically designed for incarcerated women, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
  • Conduct mentorship training programs to equip older inmates to mentor newly incarcerated women, fostering a supportive community.
  • Lead mentorship training for older inmates to serve as mentors to YOP’s.
  • Meet regularly with newly arrived inmates to assist them in developing personalized rehabilitative plans and providing continuous support.
  • Work with lifers on preparing for parole board hearings, including developing insight into their commitment offenses and creating reentry plans.
  • Conduct quarterly parole and reentry workshops tailored for women, providing essential information and resources.
  • Collaborate with prison staff by speaking at trainings, participating in management meetings, and assisting in efforts to improve institutional culture.
  • Maintain accurate records and data on program participants, ensuring confidentiality and respect for cultural differences.
  • Visit the women's prison in Chino regularly to implement and support programming.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, ensuring confidentiality and cultural sensitivity at all times.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned to support the mission and goals of ARC.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience serving and supporting incarcerated or formerly incarcerated women.
  • Experience working with the parole, probation, and child welfare system
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required, experience with group facilitation a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a member of a team, and with a wide variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, and other community-based organizations.
  • Strong time management, organization, and documentation skills
  • Access to a reliable car, insurance, and a clean driving record is required
  • Strong commitment to social justice, equity and ending mass incarceration
  • Adept with Mac operating systems, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word); Database management experience preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships within diverse virtual and in person work environments, and to work independently when applicable

Salary/Benefits

  • Pay range is 24.04 to 26.44/per hour
