Job Summary
The Health Educator/PHEP (Public Health Emergency Preparedness) Coordinator works closely with the Director of Public Health, Administrator, Administration and all LCHD Supervisors. The PHEP Coordinator actively participates in the coordination of LCHD and community efforts for preparedness planning and system development activities for response to acts of natural/man-made disasters, public health threats and emergencies.

Essential functions of the position are as follows:

Conduct health education programs groups

Coordinates bioterrorism/public health emergency response planning for LCHD

Participates in the development of plans and systems that include all the partners in the local public health jurisdiction

Develops and implements simulation exercises to ensure the effectiveness of the emergency plans and systems for the district

Collaborates with the Illinois Department of Public Health, regional staff, LCHD administrative personnel and other health departments to develop plans and policies to be able to respond in the event of a public health emergency

Prepares necessary reports describing the activities, accomplishments and status of emergency response preparedness and planning functions

Develops and presents educational materials on various health topics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Public Health, Education or a related field, preferred
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Requires the ability to work under pressure and calmly handle emergency situations
  • Requires the ability to quickly grasp new ideas and new approaches

Skills

  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and public health practices
  • Ability to educate diverse populations on health-related topics
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing techniques
  • Understanding of Medicare guidelines and coverage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent walking on uneven surface levels
  • Frequent sitting
  • Ability to bed and squat
  • Majority of time spend working in office setting with computer and other office equipment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Work Location: In person
