Full job description
Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Summary: Responsible for operating heavy equipment in support of the construction, maintenance, and repair of Coweta County’s water and sewer systems.
Primary Duties:
- Operates equipment and trucks in the street, around utilities and in other tight places requiring care and skill.
- Operates and performs daily general inspection of maintenance for a variety of medium and large equipment, such as a backhoe, dump trucks, rubber tire loaders, skid steer loaders, right of way mowers, and similar motorized vehicles.
- Repairs landscaping and water leaks.
- Installs water meters, meter vaults, decentralized systems, and water/sewer lines.
- Able to effectively operate at least one piece of the Authority’s equipment including but not limited to equipment haulers, trailers, and specialized vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A candidate for this position must have graduated from High School or the equivalent.
- One to two years of experience in operation of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of water system construction principles, practices, and materials.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and operation.
- Knowledge of safety practices associated with construction sites.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Internet, and software.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A CDL driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Must be able to lift heavy loads up to 75lbs and navigate construction job site terrain.
- Must be able to climb to heights, enter confined spaces, and conduct work while following safety protocols.
- Field work is performed outdoors. The incumbent may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The incumbent will frequently lift light objects and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
