Job Description
The Highway Laborer assists Electricians and Operators to install, repair and service roadway lighting and signal projects, keeping tools, equipment, materials and work area organized and clean.
- Must be able to travel regularly (75% travel)
- Must have Electrical or Construction Laborer experience
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Loads and unloads materials and tools and keeps site and vehicle storage areas clean and organized.
- Picks up tools and equipment and secures job site each day.
- Transports tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to needed areas of the worksite, either by hand or mechanical means.
- Digs trenches/holes for underground installations.
- Assists with the installation of conduit such at EMT conduit, Rigid conduit, PVC conduit, corrugated pipe, and O-Cal, including cutting and threading using hand and power tools.
- Assists with pulling cables of various sizes.
- Assists with installation of poles, lights, traffic signals, duct banks, ground boxes, manholes, handholes, and other electrical systems as needed.
- Utilize hand and power tools, including cutting devices, drills, saws, hydraulic, and pneumatic and maintain them in good condition.
- Assists with concrete work as needed, including preparation, shoveling/placing, and finishing.
- Operate compaction devices such as tampers and rollers.
- Performs work in a safe manner in compliance with all federal, state, local, project, and company safety requirements.
- Maintains hand and power tools in good operating condition.
- Maintains PPE and safety equipment in good condition.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of Electrical or Construction Laborer experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- High standard of integrity and professionalism.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Willingness to travel up to 75%, generally within Kentucky - travel expenses covered
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interact with company team members and other contractor employees.
- Ability to take direction and complete tasks as instructed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to get in and out of cabs and beds of equipment/vehicles.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
- Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and move heavy objects (50+ pounds).
- Must be able to work from all types of ladders, scaffolds, and lifts within the rated weight limits.
- Must be able to positively identify colors of wire.
- Must be able to work minimum 8 hr day, 40 hours per week, and overtime, weekend, and night work as required.
- Must be capable of operating 2-handed tools or equipment.
- Must be able to withstand repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers and completing overhead work for full day assignments.
- Must be capable of digging trenches, either by using hand tools or power equipment.
- Must be able to travel as needed for work assignments.
- Must possess good vision and hearing (normal or corrected).
- Must be able to safely and successfully work in a variety of challenging weather and work conditions
