Job Title: Housing Advocate

Reports to: Advocacy Director

Friends Against Family Violence, a 501(c)3 non-profit, has a mission to provide services to those impacted by family violence, increase offender accountability and raise awareness of the impact of interpersonal violence on our families and community.

Job Description:
The Housing Advocate is responsible for providing trauma informed, victim-focused domestic violence services, housing assistance, data entry, and education and crisis intervention for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children within our rehousing programs.

Housing Advocates also help to maintain transitional housing units and assist in raising community awareness regarding the impact of domestic and sexual violence.

Advocate: A person who has undergone the required domestic violence and sexual violence training in advocacy, crisis intervention, and related areas and who provides services to survivors through a domestic violence and sexual violence program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work cooperatively with the Friends Against Family Violence employees to meet the goals of the program.
  • Advocacy support with a primary focus of safety and empowerment for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Use a needs based approach to help survivors of domestic and sexual violence meet their housing needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with landlords throughout the Uintah Basin.
  • Serve on the Local Homeless Coalition to identify gaps in services and coordinate homeless services with other agencies in the Uintah Basin.
  • Help clients write individualized plans that outline measurable goals and outline steps and services to reinforce the safety and stability of the survivor being served.
  • Data entry of intake information, process notes, and other data as needed. Ensure documentation in client records is appropriate, accurate, timely and in accordance with agency policies and grant funding requirements.
  • Assist clients with budgeting and other needed skills to live independently upon completion of services.
  • Complete routine walkthroughs of transitional housing units.
  • Assist with the upkeep of transitional housing units and respond to maintenance needs in a timely manner by scheduling with contracted maintenance professionals.
  • Role model appropriate social skills, conflict resolution, parenting and other skills of daily living.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in relation to the goals of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or a related field such as Social Work, Family Sciences, etc. and/or a combination of relevant education and employment required.
  • Prior work experience in the human services setting
  • Minimum of one year experience in providing direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other helping field.
  • Excellent communication skills; cultural competence and the ability to interact with diverse populations. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Organizational skills to manage a variety of diversified tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism with sound judgment.
  • Ability to work well in a team or independent environment, with flexible hours.
  • Ability to provide active listening, encouragement and empowerment to clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and adhering to agency and professional codes of ethics.
  • Ability to accept, understand and relate sensitively to people of varied socio-economic, racial, cultural, gender preference, sexual and experiential backgrounds.
  • Ability to operate computer and other office machinery.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that demonstrate genuine concern and respect toward clients and other staff.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. and be able to walk up stairways for organization of donation storage and accessing client living quarters.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check as well as drug screen.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 per year
