Position Summary

Puente’s Fund Development Department is responsible for generating $6M annually in operational and capital dollars through foundation grants, county funding, and individual giving. The Fund Development team is well-respected and integrated into Puente’s programs, partnering closely with the Executive Director and program directors to support Puente in serving the community.

The Grants Manager is a key member of the Fund Development team working collaboratively to research, plan, produce, and coordinate grant application and reporting processes to support Puente’s annual fund development goals.

The ideal candidate for this role is a proactive project manager, a highly collaborative member of the team and community, and has exceptional writing, budgeting, and monitoring skills.

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify funding opportunities primarily from philanthropic institutions and government agencies
  • In collaboration with program managers, proactively manage deadlines to prepare and submit grant proposals and reports
  • Draft and complete grant applications and reports, managing timelines and communications to obtain review and feedback from other members of the program and Fund Development teams
  • Optimize Puente’s grant administration process
  • Prepare and monitor grant budgets
  • Prepare and/or proofread communications
  • As a collaborative team member, support department deadlines by shifting work assignments as needed and/or working in the office or other locations as requested
  • Support the Fund Development team with fundraising campaigns and events as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit funding sources
  • Hands-on experience related to applying to, or reporting for, private grants and/or county/state/federal grants and contracts
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to understand and match Puente’s program needs with agencies’ funding criteria and guidelines
  • Strong organizational skills, project management, and budgeting experience
  • Team-oriented and able to maintain professional and collegial relationships
  • Ability to work on numerous projects and report on progress and timeline
  • Adapt easily to new protocols and changing environments
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Commitment to Puente’s vision of supporting a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable South Coast community
  • Cultural competency to work with a team from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and commitment to advocacy and equity
  • Ability to work well with people in various community, institutional, and governmental organizations
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Preferred qualifications include:
  • 2+ years grant writing experience
  • Proven record of successful grant writing
  • Demonstrated ability in securing foundation grants and other institutional support, prospect research, funder cultivation, writing, and reviewing grant proposals
  • Knowledge of the South Coast or experience working in a rural community
  • Spanish fluency, both verbal and written

Salary: $35.00 - $38.00
