Description of Position: Independence, Inc. is a disability rights organization with a mission to advocate for the freedom of choice for individuals with disabilities to live independently through the removal of all barriers. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Independent Living Advocate for our Minot office.

As a peer-driven agency, over half of our board, staff, and management are individuals with disabilities. We are also recognized as a leader at the intersection of disability rights and the community response to the addiction crisis. The successful applicant will serve as a Free Through Recovery/Community Connect Care Coordinator.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Accept referrals, complete initial intakes and assessments, and build care plans, monitoring for progress.
  • Meet participants in person at least once a month, collaborate to track monthly outcomes, and ensure accountability for services and care.
  • Be an ongoing source of connection, helping participants access treatment and recovery support services, while creatively addressing barriers to their success.
  • Provide assessments, care planning, referrals, and monitoring in collaboration with clinical services, probation, and parole.
  • Serve as an advocate, assisting individuals with disabilities in pursuing their goals while maintaining independence.

Requirements:

  • Must have strong listening skills and empathy for individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health, the criminal justice system, and addiction is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in assisting and advocating for persons with disabilities is desired.
  • Knowledge and adherence to the Independent Living philosophy is necessary.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Professional experience working with individuals with disabilities may be substituted for secondary education.
  • Personal experience with disability is desired.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and liability insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
