At Independence, Inc., we remove barriers and achieve dreams.

We are looking for an Independent Living Specialist to work out of our Minot, ND office.

This position will work with people with disabilities of all ages, including youth with disabilities in a school-based setting and adults who live independently in the community.

This job requires you to work well independently and be able to learn complicated tasks quickly. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to communicate well with people from various social and ethnic backgrounds both verbally and in writing.

The primary function of this job is to provide information and referral, advocacy, skills training, and institutional transition services to people with disabilities of all ages. You must be able to work well independently and be able to learn complicated tasks quickly.

The successful candidate must have good listening skills and be empathetic towards persons with any type of disability and be a self-starter who is able to make decisions independently.

Applicants must be able to assist individuals with disabilities to pursue their goals while maintaining their independence. Experience in leading a classroom and advocating for persons with disabilities is desired.

Knowledge of and adherence to Independent Living philosophy is necessary.

Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Professional experience in working with people with disabilities may be substituted for secondary education. Must have a valid driver's license and liability insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

  • advocacy: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Preferred)
