ICCBBA Job Posting for Information Standards Specialist
(Science Degree Required)
Your Contributions to the Team:
- Use your science-related degree to help our global customers understand how to apply safe labeling concepts to blood, cellular therapy, and tissue products.
- Apply your detail-oriented skills to ensure complete and accurate database entries for blood and tissue product codes.
- Use your writing and proofreading skills to review, revise, and write policies and procedures relevant to our technical activities.
- As a great communicator, interact with medical professionals helping them understand proper implementation of our labeling requirements for blood and tissue products.
- Use your critical thinking skills to help prepare and perform validations of our processes and products.
- Exercise your sense of adventure by traveling and attending blood banking and tissue banking conferences worldwide.

- Provide training that builds upon your scientific knowledge and teach you about the specific requirements of the ISBT 128 international labeling requirements for blood, cellular therapy, and tissue products.
- Provide support and feedback on your ongoing training.

We as an ICCBBA Team:
- Enhance patient safety by promoting and managing the ISBT 128 international information standard for use with medical products of human origin.
- Manage international information standards for transfusion medicine, transplantation, and other applications of medical products of human origin in support of traceability, biovigilance, and patient safety.
- Liaise with health authorities, regulators, scientific and professional societies, user communities, and vendors on standardization in terminology and information technology.
- Provide educational programs to promote the value of, and need for, information standards and policies to support traceability and biovigilance.
- Provide technical consultation regarding the implementation and management of ISBT 128.
- Lead in the continued development of common data structures for information technology, data processing, exchange and transfer, and labeling for medical products of human origin.
A Typical Day for an ICCBBA Information Standards Specialist:
- Provide technical help desk support to customers in an efficient and timely manner.
- Maintain an awareness of developments in the fields of transfusion and transplantation, and apply this knowledge to the on-going maintenance of the ISBT 128 Standard.
- Undertake projects of a technical nature as assigned.
- Report to the Technical Manager.
- Accept daily work assignments and training from the other Technical team members.
- Collaborate with other ICCBBA team members on interdepartmental activities.
- Provide input and support to the other members of the Technical Department.
While Traveling for ICCBBA:
- Participate in, and represent ICCBBA at, professional meetings and congresses.
- Participate in the promotion of ISBT 128 through coordination of, and attendance at, the ICCBBA booth at trade shows.
- Promote the use of ISBT 128 in the transfusion and transplantation communities by participation in meetings and presentation of talks on behalf of ICCBBA.
- Support implementation of ISBT 128 worldwide.
